Thread worm. am so embarrassed. Please help.

My house is a mess. I've been so depressed lately that I've just quit everything but the essentials (my husband left a few months ago)

I've just realised I've got thread worm and I'm absolutely mortified. The kids must have them too if I have.

This is the kick up the are I need. Will get ovex tomorrow but how do I get rid of the eggs and things?

I'm really embarrassed and feel like the worst mum in the world. :(

Absolutely no need to be embarrassed! Everyone gets their turn with worms...really really common ( like nits!)

Ovex and hot wash towels and bedding.

Stop being embarrassed! Most of us get them at one time or another, it's really no big deal.

Get the Ovex and in the pack instructions are useful tips to follow on getting rid of eggs etc.

Good Lord, don't be embarrassed!

Here, we've all had worms at least three times, just dose up on Ovex, wash all sheets and PJs, cut fingernails short, and forget about it.

Iirc, 1/3 of children or something's my equally horrifying have threadworms at any given time. Ok that might be slightly made up but it's really, really high. So even if your house was spotless, there's every chance the kids would pick them up from school/nursery. The bummer (sorry!) is the eggs are really hard to get rid of - if you have worms, there will be lots off eggs around. Best advice is to hot wash everything soft (sheets/towels/cuddly toys etc) Hoover well; and wipe all surfaces - so a fairly deep clean. If poss, you then want to repeat in a few weeks (along with another dose of over)
As you'd expect, beds are esp bad for harbouring eggs, so regular sheet changing/Hoover mattress can help.

But don't feel guilty! My dcs have had threadworms quite a few times - although for some reason we escape nits. It's all part of the joys of children :-)

Don't they say that 40% of primary school age children have threadworms at any one time? Don't feel embarrassed.

Just follow the instructions on the packet, wash all the bedding and towels, and make sure everyone washes their hands before they eat.

Don't beat yourself up. It's nothing to do with the state of your house and everything to do with being in contact with people outside your home (school, nursery, wherever).
Take the medicine. Wash bedding and towels. Take the medicine again in a fortnight. Job done.

Mary , sometimes we have to congratulate ourselves on just breathing and getting through the day.

I am very sure that you're children are fed, clothed and washed. I am sure they are loved.

You are being so harsh on yourself x

Don't be embarrassed!I caught them from my DC and was horrified. At least they are easier to get rid of than nits.
Just to warn you that ovex takes a couple of days to kill the worms so you might still feel a wriggle 😷

Thanks guys!

It's just been one thing after another. D's had nits. (Cut all his lovely hair off and treated- drastic but he's the only one to ever get them so think there's a kid in his class not being treated) and found fleas on the cat last week.

I feel like we've been over run by unwanted visitors the last month.

Will get everything washed tomorrow.

See it as a positive and that lots of new people/ things want to come and stay :)
We have had worms Loads in our house. My poor (now 18) year old and has asd and the worms positively moved in for years :/
Bloody nightmare.... think we are good now (tries not to scratch)

Should I wash the actual duvets and pillows or just the covers?

Just the covers.

You all need to wear knickers /pants at night under the PJs until they have cleared up.

You need to vacuum the bedrooms and damp dust all surfaces as the eggs can be scattered from bedding .
