Question about D-mannose for UTIs

I usually get 2-3 UTIs a year, for which I normally get antibiotics. I had one over new year and was prescribed cephalexin, which worked (though I got thrush as a side effect). 4 weeks later, I have another one and I really don't want to take abx again. I bought some d-mannose and I took it for 4 days. It seemed to be working well, and I last took a dose early this morning. However, this evening the burning and urgency has come back with a vengeance. Can anyone who has successfully managed UTIs with d-mannose tell me how long you have to take it for before the UTI is permanently eradicated? I've just taken another dose and am hoping for some relief so I don't have to visit the GP.

Bizarrely I have just been told to buy this for my daughter who has recurrent UTIs. She has recurrent ecoli infections. I'm intrigued to hear how you get on? Have you been back to go?0

DD takes it but not to cure UTIs - to prevent them taking hold. It prevents the bug binding onto the tissue of the bladder but once it's there it can't help.

She's taken it every day for a year and has been free of flare ups. Sounds like you need antibiotics again and then d mannose daily and permanently.

Also, it works for cats. Smaller dose, obviously, but very effective just scattered in wet food. One week on, one week off.

To be honest, it never worked for me. After a couple of weeks of taking it, the uti was getting worse and worse and I went to the docs for more antibiotics. Ciprofloxin knocked it on the head within a couple of days. I think Backing is right and it is probably best used as a preventer.
