DS1 has a really nasty spot on his cheek (face that is!)!

A very angry looking spot has come up on ds1's cheek in the last day or so. It's very red and there is a bump too. He says it hurts too. I've tried Sudocream on it but it's not done anything. Not sure if I should take him to the docs - anyone got any advice? What's the best treatment?

Thanks.

how old?

StrawberrySnowflakes · 22/12/2006 09:00

does it look a little like a chicken pox? raised whiter head?..my dd got them last week and for her its the start of a viral infection..she then cuaght scarletina and tonsilitus, but check if he gets any more(entire body, legs, arms etc) and maybe speak/go to doc before holidays

He's nearly 5.

He's already had chickenpox. It looks like a boil. He doesn't have any other spots.

Has the spot scabed over yet ? Could it be impetigo ?

LemonTart · 22/12/2006 09:44

I wondered about impetigo. Although that tends to be more like a patch than a boil type mega spot.
Poor thing. If you are sure it is a big spot, it should go down on it?s own. Just need to make sre he doesn?t pick it and avoid infection.
If you are worried it could be more than that or keep developing, better to take him to the GP and see a practise nurse now than in a couple of days when they are shut for Christmas and you really don?t want to go to casualty over a big spot!! Also, check for other viral symptoms - is he tender under the arms? temp? rashy anywhere else or tender? miserable or just this spot bothering him?

Gingerbear · 22/12/2006 09:46

keep it really clean and use tea tree oil on it.

Mumbojumbo · 22/12/2006 10:12

Thanks guys!

Poor ds1, he says it doesn't hurt. Just looks bad I think!

I will give the docs a call if it looks like it's not clearing up.

doesnt sound like c.pox, but you ca get it twice, dd has had it.
i would go to docs incase its something that can become infected and then it willhurt the poor lamb!

HeavenisInherwinterunderwear · 22/12/2006 19:44

My ds1 had impetigo and it was just about three spots in all I think it's called bullous. It was the rate that if appeared and then scabed that made me take him to the Dr's.
Hope it clears up soon.
