Strange one-sided groin pain

Hellooooooo :-) Now, I have an odd pain that I'm going to share with you because for 3 years, my GP and Specialist have done nowt! Has anyone had anything similar?

I have a pain in my left groin / ovary area - can't quite work out where the pain actually is as it seems to be about 1-1.5cm up from my groin more towards my ovary - is this where the fallopian tubes are? Sorry to be so specific! Hope thats makes sense. When it is at its worse there seems to be a very slight swelling in that area but only I can notice!

Pain been there on and off for 3 years and specialist thinks it might be a reactive lymph node but can't trust him as far as I can throw him. Waiting for an apt to go back and see him.

Pain is only really present at nighttime, which is odd, and totally intermittent, sometimes it can be there for months and then it will go for months. Never really been able to establish a pattern but I think the pain in not present ever when I'm on my period. The only time it got very bad was when I was having constant urine infections and the pain just resonated all down my legs and it felt that there is a blockage of some sort that was restricting me walk on the side. I was also very stressed at that time so I'm wondering if the issues are related. I had a coil at the time and they removed that in case it was that, and also treated for STD's in case it was that, but nothing has worked.

I've had a scan and it was clear.

Previous irregular periods previous but now on a 5 week cycle. I have one DS.

The pain can range from a dull ache to a burning kind of pain when I poke and prod (yes, tell me not to poke and prod then hehe!)

Any ideas at all? Serious? hope not! :-)

sounds like normal ovary pain!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 22/12/2006 13:25

Could it be a hernia?

Quootiepie · 22/12/2006 13:27

had a laparoscopy? I get bad bad bad pains, and had a laparoscopy, was put down to ovulation pains - but they are unbearable sometimes, and not always around time of ovulation. Did you have them while pregnant?

I had a pain in a similar place on and off for months. It turned out to be connected with irritable bowel. The end of you bowel runs very close to where your ovaries are I think. I was investigated for pelvic infection, cysts on ovaries, kidney stones etc. but it turned out to be my bowel!

It gets worse if I am slightly constipated, or eat spicy food, but like you, I don't get it when I have my period - possibly because I'm never constipated at the time of my period (sorry if tmi!)

Look up some of the symptoms for irritable bowel and see if they are similar to yours.

Stress can exacerbate IBS syptoms too.

I get this with IBS too.

I had horrible pains too after birth of ds2. I would have period, have period pain then one week after this would get the burning pain sensation like yourself.

I went for lots of tests and prodding and tests for STD etc. and all came back negative. I had no option other than to go onto Depo injections as it takes away the pain, thankfully.

Fibroid?

I have a fibroid external to the womb, and it has at times given me similar pains.

Hiya, thanks for all the replies. Went to my GP today (a different one than normal) and I think we've finally found the answer!

She said its def. groin and not ovary. She checked for hernia and its not that. She moved around my hips and found that they are hyper-mobile and move too much in one direction more than they should. (I could always do all the yoga positions a little too easily lol!) which is putting a strain on my muscles supporting the pelvis and hip. Not sure why its only one sided, but thats why it hurts more at night as I've been putting pressure on it during the day, and thats why it comes and goes depending on the type of activity I've been doing.

I'm being referred for physio to try and get a fuller examination and maybe some specific things to do to try and strengthen the muscles.

Many thanks! :-

Glad to hear you've got closer to finding a cause and course of action. Thanks for the update too, I was very curious to know what it was.
