Recurrent itching. ..down there. ..

I keep getting bouts of itchiness on my ladybits. It's always in the same area - just at the top of my vagina either side of my clitoris (arrrgh, cringing!). I've taken a thrush tablet a couple of times in the past few months and that seems to have helped but if it was thrush, wouldn't the itchiness be everywhere? Any ideas?

no you can itch in just small areas with thrush and as far as spots / rash on your thighs.

you need to a) see your GP and have a swab taken or b) dose yourself again and c) use all anti thrush strategies ( only cotton undies, no tight jeans, no tight sweaty tights, nothing in the bath or shower except unscented plain soap, etc etc...)

Hi Polly. I didn't realise it could appear in such small specific areas. Think I will try the tab again and the other things you suggest - it's driving me mad! !

Thrush is caused by too much bacteria in the bowel. you will need to take a high potency probiotic. Works a treat on a yeast imbalance.

I take one 42 billion viable cells tablet each day and they are kept in the fridge. you can get 20 billion viable cells tablet and take 2. Your GP will tell you how much to take.

No, thrush is caused by an overgrowth of fungal cells in the vagina due to an imbalance of good and bad bacteria.

Systemic thrush in the gut which then may spread to the vagina can be caused by an imbalance of bacteria but not everyone has this - and the treatment is oral medicine- Nystatin- and a change of diet.

GUM clinic. They're most experienced, will do swabs and any treatment is free

Thrush is just one reason for an itchy vulva, don't forget it's skin just like everywhere else. Definitely see your GP or GUM clinic if OTC thrush meds aren't working - there's a good chance it's not thrush but either another vaginal or skin condition.

I've suffered very similar in the past. I used BV pessaries which cleared that problem brilliantly, then got thrush shortly afterwards pretty much where you describe.

I used Canestan cream on affected area and it improved after one application, used it for a few days to make sure. Since then no bubble bath, no hot baths and only sanex shower gel and it hasn't returned.
