Post op infection/wound

I am on antibiotics after surgery three weeks ago, new, different type prescribed yesterday evening.

One of my wounds erupted earlier, quite a bit of pus, well, half a teaspoon full, and now there is a 3mm hole at one end of it.

I have put a sterile dressing on it.

Do I just need to do anything else, clean it perhaps? I think that sounds like a bad idea. If so what with? I would have to go and buy something as I have only got savlon spray in my first aid kit.

Make appt with practice nurse at GP to get it cleaned and redressed.

It was no longer dressed until a couple of days ago because it looked fine, just has a stick on sterile dressing now, hole is bigger than I said 1.5cm ish.

Yes back to nurse. This happened to me recently, there are two threads on here, both with lovely pictures. In the end I was swabbed, given a second round of antibiotics and a stitch came out of the hole. Not nice but the hole is now healing nicely. Good luck,

Cover it with something if you can until tomorrow, even a plaster just to cover up the hole end.

Meg, did the stitch come out on its own or did the nurse have to remove it?

I have bought some sterile dressings and covered it up (Amazon delivered them yesterday in fact).

Thinking of leaving it a day or two as it is looking much better, suspect that the antibiotics that are making me feel so nauseous are doing their job!

In the end I pulled it and it snapped off in my hands with the remainder left in me. I believe it's a dissolvable stitch as it is healing up now and looks much less inflamed but I'm seeing consultant for my follow up this Thursday so looking forward to being reassured I hope. I had two lots of stitches and the external ones I had removed at 2 weeks.

I have put them the wrong way round but though the pictures and advice I got.may help you. Of course yours may be something completely different.

I had nausea with my infection but as soon as it started to clear up, the nausea went.

I think there might be a stitch in there, I haven't pulled it or anything but there is a black speck.

I feel like you would if you have got the flu tbh, like I have been hit by a train but my temperature isn't very high at 37.4 so I think I must be on the mend.

It does look better. Last night I pressed the other end of the would and pus came out of the hole , am only just brave enough to look at it let alone take photos.

This was the smallest of three cuts, from where they first attempted keyhole surgery - the rest, including the big one, are fine, virtually healed three weeks on.

I also didn't have a temperature, similar to yours. Unitially I saw a spec in my wound as well and.thr nurse didn't want to go digging around for it but eventually my body ejected it, well the bit I pulled off. Keep a close eye on it and go back to get it checked if you're worried as these things can take a turn for the worst.

Meg, new abs on Thurs and it is now starting to look better/look like it is healing, and, ...... I just pulled a stitch out with my tweezers! I did sterilise them first.

A curly stitch, 2cm long. Hopefully that is the beginning of the end!

How was your check up?

Hi there check up was great thanks. He said the stitch was dissolvable but sometimes the knots make their way out before that happens. Im so glad you are on the mend now, good luck with the rest of your recovery

Yes, convinced mine will be fine now, it was clearly the curly stitch, the curl was the diameter of the hole that appeared!
