DD Has has pneumonia, any advice please?

DD (1.9) is recovering from pneumonia. She was in hospital for 3 days but luckily it was caught early and she's much better now. Does anyone know if this makes her more succeptible to getting it or other chesty things again? Also any other tips on how to help her chesty cough, breathing would be apprecaited. Shes finished ABs now and I've bought a humidifier which I put on in her room at night. Many thanks.

DS had pneumonia a couple of years ago, I was convinced he would get it every winter or have some chest problems but to date (touch wood) he hasn't had anything other than a cold.
For my own peace of mind, I took DS back to the Drs after the ABs finished as I wanted to be reassured that his lungs were clear.
I guess all you can do is wrap them up warm. You can't prevent pneumonia from what I understand, they get it when their immune us low and the cough/cold goes to their lungs. I could be wrong, buts that what I remember being told when he had it.

DD had pneumonia at 18 months .. also hospitalised but only for 1 night .. she made a remarkable recovery and has not proved susceptible to chest infections .. she's 2.7 now

Thanks to you both. She seems much better, just a chesty cough now but it was worrying. Sods law I had to cancel her pneumonia jab twice recently because she had a cold!

Thanks Twiglett. Do the probiotics come in tablet form? Do you know where I can get then from. Was also thinking I should give her a multivitamin now too.

i had to cancel my ds pneumonia jab because of colds.

twiglett, think its combined with the meningitis booster. could be wrong of course but def remember the word pneumonia being on a letter and thinking ooo thats a new one

Don't know if you heard but the new one thats just become available is pneumococcal something or other which is to help prevent pneumonia and meningitus.

Ds1 had pneumonia earlier this year and was hospitalised for 4 or 5 days. He recovered well afterwards and was fine all summer.

Once he went back to school and it got cold, he picked up a chest infection - in fact all 3 of mine got it but he took longer than the others to get rid of it.

Since then he's been absolutely fine - that was 2 months ago.

He is 5.

I do feel wary of him picking up infections so I always make sure he's got a hat on, coat buttoned up and when he's playing football he has joggers on, fleece, jacket, hat, gloves

for this age I think the little drinking yogurts would be easiest .. like yoplait

for an older child I'd go with acidopholus from a good health food store

Thanks for that. Doc says I can rescedule her jab for a couple of weeks time so thats good. I think they're only offering it to under 2's.

ahhh you mean the pneumococcal meningitis jab? .. I thought that was different

DS1 had this aged 5, bounced right back fer 3 days in hospital and ABs. He's now nearly 8 and (touch wood) hasn't had a chest infection or cough since. Mind you, he didn't even have a cough at all with the pneumonia either.

my ds is 2.2 now ess and still cant have it because hes on antibiotics for UTI and got very bad cold, they said itl be fine to have it in a few monthsits a good idea really as little ones dont get flu jab do they

Ds (then 14 months) had pneumonia in March, hospitalised for one night. He has had a few colds since then but has got away lighter than his sister and hasn't had any other problems.
