Yet again dh has just left to take DD to gp. Am so fed up with her being ill I want to cry. She finished a course of antibiotics on sunday and seemed great then again yesterday evening started wheezing etc so he has taken her back today. I know we will yet again be fobbed off with antibiotics and the reliever inhaler due to her age and its just getting me down.

Get her some pro-biotics, they will replace the friendly bacteria that the anti-biotics kill off and this will help strenghen her immune system.

For a while too, give her vit C tablets for kiddies.

Sorry she's like this. We had one Christmas when we were all ill with the exception of dh, it took 2 months for everyone to be ok again - in fact dd was ill for quite a few months after but that was down to stress

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 19/12/2006 16:25

You can get vits in droplets for babies I think. Or you can get tonic for them that has all the vitamins and minerals in - that might be better for her.

Def get the pro-biotics though, esp if she is prescribed anti-biotics again.

You can get vitamins for a 1 year old!

DD1's been taking Floradix since she was 1.

I highly recommend it. It's got Vit C w/it, too.

I second the pro-biotics, too. Lots of yoghurt.

Holland & Barrett has Floradix on sale.

It's a liquid. Just mix it w/her juice.

nothercules · 19/12/2006 16:26

Any chance of taking her to see an ear, throat specialisit person?

Nemoinapeartree · 19/12/2006 16:27

thanks expat

nothercules she has been in hospital etc and they just keep giving her steroids saying they think its probably asthma but to the extent of at least one hospital/gp visit every 3wks..obviously now with winter closing in its upping the amount of visits.

Definitely get some probiotics
this explains why and lists the best ones for children

Nemoinapeartree · 19/12/2006 22:21

she has been put on steroids again so we shall see and fingers crossed we dont end up at hospital.

nemo - lots of sympathy
ds manages about three days of being okay, then the whole thing starts all over again.

It's so draining and frustrating isn't it.

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 20/12/2006 10:52

Don't take the pro-biotic yoghurts - milk based stuff is not good for dodgy tummies as it can help bacteria to breed. And you do need a stronger dose of pro-biotics than are in the yoghurts. You can get ones for children in most health food shops.

My ds is also very poorly, vomiting and sickness. He misses out on his nativity today so I have every sympathy for you. I'm fed up of looking at these same 4 walls!

Hope she improves soon. x
