Valium for root canal?

So I saw the dentist finally after avoiding them for like 5 years. Well they said I needed a root canal and perhaps more than one, plus I have alot of little cavities. When I went, I fell apart and barely made it through the basic xrays and cleaning, so she gave me Valium 10mg to take before the root canal. What is the Valium going to make me feel like? I'm so anxious about the root canal that I need assurance that I will be so out of it I don't care what's going on.

I've had valium for dental work. It will relax you enough to have it done without feeling anxious, but it won't knock you out. You can't drive when you have taken it (I don't think). It's a bit like having a few gins

I've never drank alcohol either so I don't know what that is like either. My hubby is bringing me to and from the appointment.

It'll make you feel a little out of focus and wobbly. You won't feel anxious.

I got valium 2mg from my GP to take before my second wisdom tooth extraction (dental nurse who booked my first one promised me they would give me something then handed me homeopathic something or other when I arrived ). Definitely took the edge off, although I wasn't as relaxed as I had expected/hoped, your 10mg dose would have been lovely.

I also now have local anaesthetic injections without adrenaline in them (except for extractions, you need it to help reduce bleeding) as I realised it was the adrenaline that was making me feel jittery, shaky and generally unwell for several hours after procedures.

I had intravenous Valium when I had a wisdom tooth out. I can't remember I thing** about it, but the nurse said I was chatting away like anything. Which was odd for me as I'm such an introvert

Does it make a person act loopy?

I took 2mg about 30 mins before my root canal that lasted 1.50 hrs, it just made me relaxed and calm. My dentist uses a specialist for root canal and I had not met him before, I trust my dentist implicitly, so was concerned about someone who didn't know me.

My dentist said it would good to take Valium if i had some, so I did, I am glad that I did, no pain or discomfort from the root canal work, which was tricky, 4 nerves and hooked at the tip, no after effects, no wooziness etc, as such a small amount. Anymore would knock me out as I was prescribed 5mg for panic attacks and they were very strong, so asked for the 2mg, which work well, though reluctant to take them.

Hello, I very rarely take 10mg of diazepam (the active ingredient in valium) to help me sleep. I have anxiety and occasionaly take 5mg of it to take the edge off and control my anxiety. At this dose I do not suffer from side-effects, but 10mg just makes me fall asleep, and the couple of occasions when I've been kept awake whilst on it I basically felt drunk, which I guess is not much of a useful comparison to you seeing as you haven't drunk before...basically it just makes you feel drowsy, and not quite 'there' with all the details of what is going on. You will need someone to take you home from the appointment, and I would suggest going straight to bed after to sleep it off. Good luck with it.

I have a 10 month old, would I be able to care for him after?

I wouldn't think so after 10mg and your first time taking it. DH takes 6mg daily for anxiety and is absolutely fine to do everything, but he has built up to that level very, very slowly.

I would think you probably would not be able to care for the child safely for at least a few hours or so after, I would make provisions to have another adult present to help care for your little one at least whilst you have a nap to sleep some of it off.
