I need to go to the dentist, and I need to have a filling, which means I need to have an injection. I'm too scared. Am such a coward.

I have some diazepam for such emergancies, so will take some before my appointment.

I find what helps me is either... imagining im on a horse, going over a massive jump for the duration, or really thinking about whats happening. You can get this done under gas though you know? {{hugs}} I had a root canal done after pregnancy and had 4 injections over 2 hours because I wouldnt go numb {{hugs}}

I probably shouldnt have said that

Quootiepie · 19/12/2006 07:38

it will be 30 seconds max... count that out now. Thats it. Injection over xxx

colditz · 19/12/2006 07:39

The NHS won't do it under gas though. I would have to pay for it and it would be v expensive to be so pampered. Cheaper just to take the diazepam - I was prescribed it months go but haven't used any yet.

really? I got offered under gas on NHS...

Quootiepie · 19/12/2006 07:42

Have you ever jumped on a horse? been on a swing? You know then feeling when your tummy goes up..... then down. Simulate that. I really really imagine being on a horse, taking a jump that lasts the 30 seconds, and make that feeling in my tummy happen... helps me for some reason xxx

Hmmph, probably a postcode thing. Is it the gas and air you get in labour?

Poor you In the first instance they may just treat the inflammation. Can you take some nurofen beforehand ?

Quootiepie · 19/12/2006 07:45

no, I think I was going to be knocked out. But silly me forgot you cant have it done while pregnant, so waited until after and had it done normally. They had to xray jaw before you see. They normally knock you out via IV, but that defeated the point with me as I was terrified of needles. Then they said they would do gas. Presume general Anas whatever you call it

On dp's 'advice' have swished with brandy. It does feel a little better, but I now smell like a friggin alcoholic!
