Anyone know anything about motorised mobility scooters?

My mum is now very limited mobility wise. She has just turned 70.
(She needs an op she is refusing to have so this is where we are)
She doesn't drive.
She can now only walk to the end of her road :(
Prior to this she would walk 3/4 times a day around the village, the see her friend, round the shops etc.
I have to accept her decision (obv) but she is coming round to be idea of molbility aids.
I know nothing about this!
It would need to be a lightweight one I could fold and put in my car ideally.
Any companies that a particularly good? Or bad?
Would she quality for an help towards the cost?

My dad was terribly against having a scooter, but now tells everyone about how wonderful they are. He went from not being able to do the shopping on his own (drives, but just getting in from the carpark was too much) to being out on it every day, able to stop and chat, goes to events in their town etc

The ones that fold are pretty flimsy, so you are better getting a wheelchair to take in the car with you, and a more robust scooter for her to use everyday.

My local place that sells scooters has a little test track and advise on which scooter is most suitable for a particular person.

I don't think there is any help on costs, but you can get them second hand very easily on Preloved etc

Yes, it's a big step forward that she is even considering it cmot, so I'm quite keen to push forward! :)
She has borrowed a walking stick from a friend which has helped.
Have found a local place I could take her to tomorrow.
Good point about the wheelchair.
It seems that the only ones I can find that go in the boot you actually have to dismantle!

Yes, though I do see one lady around who has a hoist which allows the folded scooter to go in and out of their estate car.
With a smallish scooter you can go on the bus which is useful, so its balancing the range, speed, and stability of the different scooters

Brilliant! BTW, dad reckons the hessian reusable bags sit between your feet best for shopping. And I got him a leg wrap (on ebay, sold as a scooter apron) recently that keeps him really cosy which is important when you don't move. He had a cosy toes thing, but he struggled to get it on and off and I worried about him falling with it on

Tbh she can afford one but she would rather not spend £££££
