Just how long is this ruddy cold going to go on for?!

Whiny whingy duck here - feel free to skip.

This cold started over a week ago (average length of a cold 5 days ... yeah right) with a sore throat that rapidly turned into early stages of tonsilitis feelings - you know that really spikey throat you get in the run up. Managed to head that off at the pass by lots of ginger, honey & lemon tea and gargling with anti-bacterial mouthwash (not both at the same time).

Then I've had a week of the snots (you know the type, where you can't sleep without three layers of pillows keeping you vertical all night so you don't drown in your own slime) while also dealing with a toddler with rampant snots of his own.

Now the last 24hrs it's gone to my sinuses and I'm in agony. (Ducks must have big sinuses - they're all beak, aren't they?!) I've done the head over steaming bowl of water/olbas oil. I've taken the decongestion tablets... WHY is there no difference?!

I feel as ill today as I did 7 days ago - don't you normally feel rough the first couple of days of cold and then have just niggly aftermath stuff afterwards? AND to add insult to injury I can't taste a bloody thing, so I can't even eat loads of chocolate to cheer myself up.

And I've still got the hacking cough/asthma aggravation stage to look forward to ...

Sorry, I know people have more serious stuff in "Heatlh" but I just wanted to wallow in my misery for a bit and have people cheer me up. (Did you buy any spare fairy cakes, LTH? looks hopeful)

Oh and I was supposed to go out for a meal last night with friends - it's been MONTHS since I've gone out of an evening, and I had to skip it in favour of an early night and a lemsip ... sniffle

Oh someone offer me some sympathy ... please

You get my sympathy! You sound really rough, you poor Duck. I'm also struggling here, and feeling sorry for myself to boot (not that I'm suggesting YOU are feeling sorry for yourself ) I'd only just got rid of an inner ear infection and have now gone down with a cold and the inner ear thing has come back. So not only am I falling all over the place, but I'm snotty too.

My recommendation for ducks and androids alike, is to light the fire, and sit in front of TV feeling rotten and requesting sympathy. Oh, can I offer you some chocolate cookies which DD and I made this morning? Melt-in-the-mouth ones?

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 17/12/2006 14:49

Sounds like a good idea to me. For some reason though, I'm making a roast dinner for dh and the ducklings so can't sit down quite yet (WHY?! They'd have been just as happy with a frozen pizza...) Chocolate cookies would be lovely.

And there's nothing wrong with feeling sorry for oneself when no other bugger will do it

Perhaps I should just rename myself to Pus-filledSnottyDuck....

Can't offer any medicinal fairy cakes I'm afraid.

Besides I've put them all in aitight boxes and the one that was left over was really quite rank....

Still 'm sure a room full of 5 and 7 yr olds won't mind.
I'll pre-warn the teachers though

Dh home now and starvingh because trains ran all wrong today so he's not had any break......so I'm now cooking dinner too.

(well chucked a pie in the oven if that counts as cooking )

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 17/12/2006 17:43

Hehe... wafts roast dinner smells LTH's way...

If the trains ran all wrong today, shouldn't LordTophamHatt be giving Thomas a stern telling off for not being a Useful Engine?

I've had the same thing Duck.

Full of snot(lovely}
Bad cough a night,
Terrible heavy head,
Awful sinus pains,
Deaf in one ear & ear ache!

The decongestants did nothing,day/night nurse, nothing. Sinex allowed me to breath briefly!

Only thing that helped was paracetamol for my head/ear ache.

It's taken a good 2 weeks to go.
Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear!

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 17/12/2006 21:44

Oh god... another weeeeeeeeeeeeeeek? (she says pitifully).

I've been putting off so much - I was really busy in November so I thought - I'll catch up with stuff in December no worries. Then ds2 got 2 stomach bugs in succession and didn't go to nursery... now this cold.

Christmas could be interesting - can I postpone it until January?
