Pierced ears not healing after 4 months - any advice?

My dd (11) had her ears pierced in August. We cleaned them religiously for the first 2 months, then stopped. However, we've had to start again, and are still going, as if we leave them for more than a day, they ooze like a popped zit when we do finally get round to them (gross- sorry, but true). They're not red, swollen, sore, or anything else - just sort of zit-like, and with a little blood occasionally too. I'm wondering whether she needs to see the GP, but as they're not particularly bothering her I'm just continuing with the surgical spirits. Is this normal, do you think, or is there something we're doing wrong?

TIA

Same as sleepycat.

What are the posts made of? And does she fiddle with the earrings?

They're whatever Claire's use as standard - gold plated I think. Hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll try her with some little gold sleepers when school breaks up, it might keep them cleaner and get some air to them, and we'll see if the gold makes any difference.

She's not a fiddler. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing - we were told to keep them moving early on, but not sure she does.

hi she could be alergic to the gold maybe try silver?

StayAtHomeMummy · 14/12/2006 16:11

I'd never considered allergy as being a possible cause! She's never had a problem with allergies before - but you're right, it's definitely worth trying other things to see if they improve.

well i react to gold it makes my ears sore and my neck green! you could also ring your nearest piercing studio they may be able to advise you

thats sounds like my belly piercing, its not sore or red but oozes, I changed the bar to a white gold one that DH brought me and its ok now.

Will definitely try her with something else - thanks all.
