NO! You are NOT being OTT ... definitely NOT ...
I would put my foot down and say an absolute NOT A HELL'S chance of letting a child (let alone a baby) in a car with someone who was smoking in the car. Surely he can wait for his smoke until they are parked up and he can get out???

heavenlyghosty · 14/12/2006 07:39

TBH I would be unhappy with someone getting in a closed car with my baby after they have had a cigarette.

loopylopey · 14/12/2006 07:43

damn straight! you are not being over the top at all.
my husband's uncle came up and visited us when baby was 5 weeks and kept going outside the house to smoke and then came back in reeking of smoke - i bit my tongue but wish i hadn't. just be honest, its always the best way!

foxtrottothefestivegrotto · 14/12/2006 08:04

i wouldn't go in car with someone who smoked and i definately wouldn't let my LOs (isn't 4 months a bit young for the zoo anyway?)

gigglinggoblin · 14/12/2006 08:07

no! my parents both smoke like chimneys but never around my kids. i have not even had to ask them not to, they know my feelings on the subject and have just always gone outside then hyperventilated before coming back

jalopy · 14/12/2006 08:12

No

hotmulledwinemama · 14/12/2006 08:12

Absolutely not - I wouldn't go in the car myself.

Agree a 4 month old is a bit young to enjoy a zoo - is your mum going because other children going - or just your mum and uncle? If so I would think they should give it a miss!

BrandyTutter · 14/12/2006 08:17

no

MerryMegandSnowySoph · 14/12/2006 08:21

No I wouldn't and can't belive someone would actually consider smoking in a car with a child in it.

Leander · 14/12/2006 08:26

No definately not.I smoke but NEVER infront of my kids I go into the garage or garden.i dont smoke alot when tthe kids are up maybe 2 or 3, but i never smoke in the house or car and never in anyone elses home or car.

Heartmum2Jamie · 14/12/2006 09:58

Absolutely not!!! I don't even let people near my ds's if they have been smoking elsewhere, until the smell of smoke is off them (and they have to wash their hands, lol!). Perhaps ds2 having eczema, allergies, respiratory issues and a heart condition have made me a little OTT

dara · 14/12/2006 09:58

No. Definitely not.

ChristmasCaroligula · 14/12/2006 09:59

No you're not, he's a savage.

EllieHsMum · 14/12/2006 10:20

jingleboobs Its a big NO for me. I am sure if you speak with your Mum she would understand?

smellymelly · 14/12/2006 10:22

Absolutely not! You are within your rights to ask him to not smoke, but I wouldn't want him shut in a car either even after he has had a fag.

My son was in a portacabin watching me ride the other week, which is open all one side and he is 7, someone started smoking next to him, and I asked them to smoke outside!! Not easy for me in french, but she completely understood.

PinkTinsel · 14/12/2006 10:23

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

do not let her go!

HoHoHorsewoman · 14/12/2006 10:24

Not at all - nobody should be exposed to other people's smoke, especially in such a confined environment. I have always made smokers leave my house if they wanted a cigarette (even DH when he smoked!). I would make excuses if I were you about her being a bit too young for the excursion etc, etc. Or you could just come out and say why you really don't want her to go. Surely nobody could object to that reason?
