Pulled something in ribs when coughing

Had a bit of a coughing fit this morning on the way to school, and felt a sudden jarring in the back of my ribs on one side.

Anyone had this, any idea what I've done, recovery time etc?

It's very annoying. It feels too fragile to go to the gym and I assume I shouldn't go until the pain has completely gone? I took painkillers half hour ago, not made much difference yet.

You can damage your intercostal muscles by coughing. I have pulled and completely torn mine and fractured ribs when coughing. There is nothing they can do for it apart from rest and hold your side when coughing.
Im not saying that is what you have done but it is one thing that it could be.

Did the dr diagnose you Grin or did you have to have a scan? How long did it take for you to recover?
That's why I can't be bothered with the docs because I know the prescription will be rest and painkillers.

First time I had an X-ray to see the rib fractures. Every other time I diagnosed myself. The joys of chronic bronchitis and reoccurring pneumonia. All I did was taken ibuprofen and use a heat pack.

Oh poor you Grin. Thanks for letting me know and hope your health improves.

I've done this before, with a terrible cough. It just suddenly popped after one coughing fit. I didn't see a doctor, though I think I had a chat with one of the trainers at the gym to check what exercise I could be doing, and then just did heat and rest. Hope it feels better soon.
