kidney pain

Since the start of the month I've had left kidney pain - I went to the gp as have had right kidney issues previously.
He did a dip test which was positive for everything but nitrates. GP suspects kidney stones - I've not had these before. And had a ct scan two years ago when last kidney issues and had none then. He has referred me for a CT scan which I chased today and should her about an appt next week.

Things settled a bit last week, but the pain is back today in a big way - have any of you found ways to help ease the pain? I'm thinking I may contact the gp again tomorrow and see about some pain relief as it's miserable and really is a struggle to do things on a day to day basis.

Any tips?! Please.

if indeed it is renal stones, not much advice to offer, im afraid, other than drink plenty of water, and get some decent painkillers (only available on prescription from your doctor) - so contacting your gp is definitely the correct way forward.

you mention you had kidney issues before, but no stones - what was your diagnosis on that occasion?

Thank you - both previous issues have been with my right kidney. The first time I was told the tube in my kidney is narrow and and infection had caused the pain. I believe an ultrasound scan confirmed this - I was 13 at the time.
The second time while I was pregnant my dd was squashing the tube from my kidney to bladder and causing issues. I had a ct scan which showed this. No mention of stones. A stent was considered but wasn't fitted.

I'm currently waiting for a call back from my gp as the pain has been really bad over night - to the point it takes my breath away to move.

given the level of your discomfort, i would be keen that you get in front of a doctor soon - either your GP (the correct first port of call) or even A&E. i don't know if you have any symptoms of an infection, but i would say that needs to be excluded quite urgently, as it sounds like you last saw your GP a little while ago.

even if its not an infection, the level of pain you are currently experiencing needs to be managed with something significantly stronger than over-the-counter pain killers.

Thank you - I'm currently waiting to be triaged at a&e now. You're advice has been great and also reassured me that I'm not being over the top.
I listened to my mum, who agreed with you !

So, it's not an infection. And apparently I don't present as a typical kidney stone problem either.
Kidney function blood test was fine. All other obs fine as well. (Two other blood tests to come back but main was kidney function).

Pain is easing with the painkillers they have given me. Not gone, but a more manageable 5/10ish.

Conclusion is wait for ct scan and see what, if anything, that shows. But whatever it is, it doesn't warrant anything more at the moment. Which is fine by me. Happy to be home again and cuddling up to dd.

Back pain leg cramps
Hi I've been suffering really bad with back pain but it's more to the sides of my back on Both sides I also have cramps in my right left it feels as if I've done a work out at the gym very crampy the pain also radiates into my abdomen I went in to the g.p last week he checked to see if I have a urine infection and it come back normal but these pains in my sides and lower back are absolutely killing me I'm ringing my doctor back in the Morning when they open just wondering if anyone else has experienced pain like this before never had anything like it it's awful
