...or is it just sometuhing that people say to make people with nits feel better?

Have there been any randomised double blind controlled trials? (I hope they paid well!)

just something people say to make you feel better - i dont think nits actually give a fuck.

bundle · 07/12/2006 14:53

no

crappywappynamechangingwuss · 07/12/2006 14:54

nits don't descriminate, they're very PC you know.

SenoraPostrophe · 07/12/2006 14:57

well, they don't seem to like ds. perhaps that's due to his not having much hair though.

Well I hope yes is the answer because they seem to ADORE both of my children and DS also has short hair and I found a louse on his head only last night - could not believe it.

SenoraPostrophe · 07/12/2006 15:03

not that ds doesn't have clean hair, you understand...it;'s so clean it doesn't need washing yet.

Don't know if it's true but school nurse once told me that headlice don't like mens' hair (they don't like testosterone). They do like children's hair but given a choice would go for the hair of women in their 40's.

I was mid 20's then ....but not any more.

NAGY runs to find nit comb!

Ok I will come out and admit it: we have headlice in the family at the moment. Dd has them, as does ds2 and ds3 and I think I have them but can't find them! Only dh and ds1 have escaped so far.

I can categorically tell you it is a load of nonsense that lice prefer clean hair. They want blood only and that is what they will look for. So if you have blood in your scalp and hair on which they can lay their eggs, you are a potential target.

chocolaterobin · 07/12/2006 16:32

dsd has had them for the last six weeks and bm blames us for washing her hair when she is with us! More to the point we de-lice her and bm doesnt follow it up so of course the little blighters return! Clean dirty they go to either.

ClementClarkeMoore · 07/12/2006 16:35

No, it's a fallacy

thebecster · 07/12/2006 16:39

No, nits will live happily on clean hair, dirty hair, every kind of hair. They don't seem to like hair wax though - I always catch them from my niece but DH never does and I think it's because of his daily liberal application of 'black&white'!

SenoraPostrophe · 07/12/2006 16:45

cool. must tell dh.

dd and I are almost rid of the buggers, but now the nit comb has gone walkies.

DP never gets them either and he always has lots of hair gel on his hair.

No wonder I didn't get them in the eighties when my hair was slicked to perfection with gel and hairspray

expatinscotland · 08/12/2006 10:39

they also don't seem to like the homemade detangling spray I use on DD1's locks - Tres Semme conditioner, about 1/3 of hte bottle, topped up w/warm water and a few drops of lavender oil.
