Sick bug- When and how long contagious? (I'm panicking!!)

Picked DS1 up from school today to be told he was sick about 20mins earlier. I don't deal with sickness very well and am panicking that DD's will get it. (DS2 had it last Wednesday night at his dads).
I made sure he washed his hands when we got home and he has only been sick once since in a bowl where we all were.
Ive been round spraying anti bacterial cleaner where he might of touched on the way in the door. I had to wash out his sicky school clothes too.
Its the 1st sickness he has had since starting school. I am not sure the best way to clean up either if DD's do get it. I haven't had to do it yet. I am going to be off my food for days now and worrying about DD's being ill.

Anyone know?

I think its worse now because its basically the 1st bug we have ever had! Guess i'm lucky to have gone 9 years with only about 4 minor cases of sickness between 4 DC!

Sorry you've got the sick bug! I read in the paper that you can pass on the bug for up to three days after you are last sick. Sounds like you are doing all the right things. I am completely in dread of sick bugs because i've got five children for it to go through! This is what I do. . .
I wear rubber gloves for all the cleaning up. I use kitchen roll and other disposable cloths. Use hot soapy water and then some hot water with a bit of bleach in. Washing hands regularly. Give all your children buckets next to their beds for the nights and put towels on the floor! Don't feed them milky things or anything that is particularly horrible when it comes back up. Give them crackers and toast and water if they have been sick and still want to eat, but try not to feed the bug. For self protection I chop up raw garlic (about three cloves) and mix it into a table spoon of honey and eat it! My friend who is equally obsessesed with not getting sick sprinkles tea tree oil around the house. You can also buy grapefruit seed extract from health food shops which kills a lot of bugs. You can clean with it and also dilute it to drink. Its incredibly bitter though.
I realise I sound a bit over the top - I think I worry too much about it!

3 days ! Well he will be at his Dads from tomorrow until Friday after school anyway.
Does the tea tree or galic and honey work? Doesn't sound very nice though!
I'm hoping as he was mainly sick at school that that limits the risk to the DD's.

well garlic is supposed to be anti everything! anti fungal, anti bacterial, antibiotic etc. Once you get used to it its ok. Take it with a big glass of water and lemon to drink quickly after! I must sound like mad hipppy!
I don;t know if the three days is for all sick bugs or just the winter vomiting one. Our school ask you to keep kids off for 48 hours after they were last sick.
One of our local nurseries is shut at the moment because of it.
