Large pupils in dd's eyes

I am hoping someone can put my mind at rest.

Dd16 was crying this morning as she thinks there is something wrong with her. She has always had quite big pupils I think. I never took much notice I suppose. But she says people have been commenting on how large her pupils are, especially at night and are asking if she is on drugs. Which she most definitely is not.

The pupils do both dilate as normal I think but one pupil is a bit bigger than the other. I would not have noticed this if she had not mentioned it and it may always have been this way.

Is it just that some people have big pupils? I have made an appointment at docs but not until next week but would it be best to go to opticians? She is going for an eye test as well in a few weeks.

Please if anyone could stop me panicking I would be grateful as google is full of horror stories.

Have they always been like this? Maybe you could look at some old baby photos? If they have always been like this and still dilate as normal I wouldn't worry too much, but still get her checked with Dr.
Just googled it too and it seems more anxious people are prone to larger pupils - is she a worrier?

I would get it checked by an optician this weekend just to be on the safe side but some people just have large pupils. A school friend of mine had huge brown eyes with huge pupils and it looked stunning and very attractive.

Thank you. I can't get in at the opticians this weekend although they said to call in and they would take some details. Docs appt is Tuesday but maybe it would be better going to opticians as they deal with eyes all the time?

Can't really tell from old photos. Her pupils did look quite big on some of them and one pupil does seem a slightly bigger than the other so that's not too worrying.

She is not particularly anxious either. I am the anxious one not dd.

DD is quite similar to this and she is the same age. She also has one pupil larger than the other. She's been checked out thoroughly by two opticians.

I would get her checked by an optician, GP a bit limited as to what they can do with lack of equipment.

I would definitely get it checked out for peace of mind!
I have often been told my pupils are quite big and I can see on flash photos they are quite big when I get red eye. I had glasses as a child but my eyes are fine now as far as I am aware, just get a professional opinion too

Dd is pleased as just this morning someone commented on her different pupil sizes. Fingers crossed its nothing.

Fingers crossed Melrick. It is quite alarming abd think that's good you'very got her in. Fingers firmly crossed all is well.

Just an update for those if you kind enough to reply. Dd went to optician and he was not concerned at all. Did the usual eye exam with photos etc and thought all seemed OK. One pupil is a but bigger than other but not a problem.

Great news. Now your dd should come up with some witty replies to the idiots making fun of her! How about telling them she has special X-ray lenses in? Or she is part alien? (Sorry, getting close to Halloween...)

Brilliant, big relief

Glad all is well. I always thought young people and children (but not the very young) have large pupils (in low light/indoor conditions) whilst they get smaller and less able to change size with lighting conditions in older adults. So its a sign of youth surely. My pupils are very slightly different sizes - always have been- (and my twin was the other way around) but they work fine.

Ha ha yes. She should tell them she's an alien. I love Halloween too!
And yes the optician said exactly that maggiso that its a sign of youth and will prob change as she gets older

My mum used to comment on my large pupils at that age too
