Ear infection

I wonder if anyone has experience of this? I currently have an infection in both ears and it has been 5 weeks. One is much worse than the other (weepy and inflamed). I have been to docs now 6 times and hospital once to have them cleaned out. I have had two sets of antibiotics and 4 sets of eardrops. My hearing is minimal (can't use the phone and conversation is virtually nil).
Docs have told me this particular bacteria - forgotten what it is called- is very hard to shift. Been on new eardrops for three days and have to take for ten, but there is absolutely no improvement.
I am starting to worry about long term damage to my hearing - is this a thing with these infections? Not really sure what else they can do.

The lady at work came down with a severe ear infection in both ears a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, she did sustain hearing damage and is down to 70% hearing in one ear and 50% in the other which she has been told is permanent.

Thanks for response (although not what I wanted to "hear").
