Pregnancy post removal of appendix

Hi mumsnetters, I had a c-section in Jan 06 (tried 36 hours for a natural birth) and have a ds whom is perfect. Seems I had a pretty straightforward recovery. Have just had my appendix removed which was horrific - recovery much worse than after my c-section. Would like more children (am 37 so can't leave it too long). Has anyone any idea how long to leave getting pregnant post appendix removal? or has anyone been in a similiar situation? Thanks

Hello, I had my appendix removed Dec 03 had my first baby (dd) Nov 04 and had no problems, had ds Jan 06 emergency c section and no problems. Although when I was pregnant with dd they did say 'you should have really waited 12 months before falling pregnant you know' and gave me a look! Hope this helps

Taba, I am 7 weeks pregnant and got pg about 5 days after having my appendix out - and so far I am fine! Why was your recovery so bad, did you have infections etc?

Emskilou, am surprised about that - I had open surgery and talked to the senior nurse whilst still in hospital about ttc (and my GP afterwards) - she said I should be fine as the scar would be fully healed before it started to have any pressure put on it by swelling abdomen. My GP also pointed out that you can have your appendix out during pregnancy with no ill effects (not ideal, but still!)

Very helpful - thank you. It was a nightmare as I went into hospital on Thursday night in a lot of pain - didn't see a doc until 4.30am (they were busy). On Morphine at this stage - they weren't sure it was an appendix. They were going to operate Friday night but were busy so didn't operate until Sat morning. I had had no sleep, on regular morphine (which I think sent me a bit mad) and my appendix was very inflamed and stuck down. So I think a combination of all that is why I feel I had such a rough time. On the mend now. Pretty impressive to concieve 5 days post removal of appendix - good luck with your pregnancy.

Thanks Taba! Poor you, I can't believe you had to wait so long for your op! Mine was operated on within 40 minutes of being diagnosed (and was near to rupturing too). Fortunately I recovered very quickly (as you can tell ). Tbh I found it took me longer to get over the GA than to cope with the wound. Good luck with ttc.
