Can antibiotics cause erratic mood swings????

Have been put on amoxycilin by my dentist last 4 days ago due to very persistent infection in tooth socket. The 2 other antibiotics we've tried in the past I've had major reaction too (itching, rash, unwell etc.). This time none of the aforementioned symptoms.

However, have turned into right demented & emotional cow in the last 2 days. Then dh had an irrational moment and I nearly went over the edge. Now at stage where I'm punching walls and wanting to throw things! Or worse drive the car against a tree. But that's material for another thread...

Could be that it's the continued sleep deprivation and ds (2) getting more and more difficult with not sleeping and basically ignoring anything I say to him and dd (nearly 5) being very teenage like...

Just thought I'll check on here if anybody has had similar experience with ab's.

Thanks

A couple of months ago, DH was put onto a two week long course of a very strong antibiotic. He's a very, very un-moody person, but the antibiotics made him depressed and irritable. As soon as he stopped taking them, his mood lifted. A second two week course a couple of weeks later had exactly the same effect.

yes, me too - all antibiotics have a total jeckyll and hyde result - from nice to nutter in about 30 mins...

MrsBojangles · 04/12/2006 21:22

30 minutes? is that after taking first dose?

been to see doc, he reckons the ones I'm one don't cause dual personality , however as I've got a lot on my plate, am totally exhausted and have tendency to depression the ab's were the catalyst blablabla
