General anaesthetic with high TSH

Does anyone know if a TSH level of 8.56 will preclude me from having a GA tomorrow. I am scheduled to have a vulvoscopy in the morning but my TSH has come back a bit high. I'm fit and healthy otherwise and on thyroxine, so I'm under control. Problem is I am now waiting for the 'go ahead' from the anaesthetist. So frustrating. Have arranged cover at work, husband has taken time off, kids booked in at childminders etc. Aargh!

It's going to be an individual decision on the part of the anesthetist. With a TSH of 8.56, you would be lucky to get treatment these days, but equally, it's way too high for someone on thyroxine and suggests that the important things, FT4 and FT3 will be low.

Actually, with a TSH of 8.56, it doesn't actually look as though you are under control.

They can bring it down by giving you a dose of liothyronine, but I doubt they'll be prepared to do that.
