sebaceous cyst....too big?

Ok I've had this bloody lump on my back for years. It's currently approx. 3.5 x 2 inches.
In the summer I'm most aware of it as it looks like an extra breast under tops Sad and hate leaving it bare.
When I've asked people before they have said GPs wont usually remove them until they are causing pain.
It's not causing any pain, but how big does it have to get before it will burst or they can remove it?

Ask a friend to squeeze it.... I would!!

Frecklesandspecs · 05/10/2015 20:40

Btw, It's benign (had it scanned a few years back whilst in with another illness) and my dad was pretty sure it was just a cyst (he was a Dr) so pretty sure that's all it is.

Is your dad still around? can you get him to squeeze it for you?

Sparklingbrook · 05/10/2015 20:43

I would ask your GP to look, it's causing you problems if it looks like another breast.

If it is removed it needs to be done properly. Please don't wait for it to burst as that makes it more difficult. the whole sac has to be removed to prevent it filling again.

DH had one that burst on his shoulder. DS2 headbutted it accidentally. It is one of the few times I have seen DH cry.
Plus the gunk inside is vv unpleasant. You need a professional.

Frecklesandspecs · 05/10/2015 20:43

I could myself sand dunes probably, but I'm too squeamish.
I wouldn't know how to cope with the cottage cheese Hmm

Could you pay and go private.

VulcanWoman · 05/10/2015 20:46

There are lots of Youtube videos. Shock

Frecklesandspecs · 05/10/2015 20:46

Ow, Sparkling, I've heard it's painful if it bursts. Hmm
I don't think I'd want to risk it becoming infected.

Ahem. What's missing op?
Your dads a Dr, someone will have a phone or camera with a decent light. Go for it! Result=Many many happy sporny fuckers. I can be there as soon as you like

gallicgirl · 05/10/2015 20:46

Can you film it?

Grin

Wait. Hold on. Is this a serious sporn thread??!

Sparklingbrook · 05/10/2015 20:48

No squeezing or filming. Sad

Frecklesandspecs · 05/10/2015 20:48

Tell the doctor what you've said here - if it's affecting the clothes you can wear, it needs to come out - and they might be pleased to be asked!

Frecklesandspecs · 05/10/2015 20:51

Whenever there's a freebie going sparkling, they all come running Grin
Don't like the stuff myself. Prefer cheddar

I had one removed in hospital which wasn't hurting - it just was big and on my head

BikeRunSki · 05/10/2015 20:56

My GP removed some much smaller sebaceous cysts from my scalp a couple of years ago. They were vaguely problematic because I pranged them with a comb from time to time and they would occasionally get infected. I had 2 cut off in one session, and 2 about a month later.

TheCraicDealer · 05/10/2015 20:56

Even if it's not causing you pain I think the fact that it's becoming more noticeable, limiting your wardrobe choices and you're worrying about it means you'd be able to put a strong case for intervention to your GP.

I love a bit o' poppin' but with this I'd stick to the GP or go private if needs be. You need to extract the sack so it doesn't refill and you don't want to chance infection or a scar.

If you would like me to accompany you to hold your hand and the camera then I'm only a PM away! Grin

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 05/10/2015 21:03

Oh Craic-back of the queue!
Yes, sadly think this is beyond diy. (Unless you are one of those people attacking huge lumps on YouTube with various sharp objects, usually with a small child and dog looking on) There will be some sporny nurse or Dr desperate to have a go. How about emailing Dr Sandra on you tube?

Scarletforya · 05/10/2015 21:05

Go to a dermatologist!

MatildaTheCat · 05/10/2015 21:09

Just tell your GP it keeps getting knocked and is sore. I'm sure at that size you'll be referred for removal and then you can post the photos on here and make everyone very happy.

Frecklesandspecs · 05/10/2015 21:25

Wow, we have queue Grin
Do people get paid for making sebaceous cyst Vids? I'm lost!!
I'd be more than happy to film the entire event and employ a cameramum for the afternoon.
I've never been famous before so I'm genuinely quite excited Grin

It's times like these I wish I was a GP.

Frecklesandspecs · 06/10/2015 10:02

You need some practical experience first travelling (though some might wonder sometimes Grin. Feel free to pop in sometime.
