Lower back and upper thigh pain when and after walking

This has been going on for some time now. It started years ago after a particularly long shopping trip and much walking.
It has steadily got worse over the years.

Almost as soon as I start to walk far, I get an achy lower back which gradually spreads to my upper front/side thighs.
If I walk a long way or have a night out involving standing for long periods, the pain in my thighs is often so bad I cannot sleep.

I am 47, fairly fit and active. I am a bit heavy (about two stones which I'm working on) but I wasn't overweight when it started about 5 years ago.

I wondered if anyone else gets this and what to do next.

Sounds very much like sciatica. Your doctor would be able to confirm.

Doesn't sound like sciatica to me. That tends to be in the buttock and down the side or back of the thigh and is really painful.
It's more likely to be arthritic and carrying the weight might have done it- excess strain on your joints. See your dr but you also need to lose weight- think about what carrying a suitcase weighing 2 stone with you all day every day would do- it would be exhausting and this is what strain your body is under.

I have a problem with my pelvis and sometimes get this kind of pain if I let my core exercises go for a bit. Could be worth talking to a physiotherapist.
