Wisdom teeth op - how long was your recovery?

I had two bottom wisdom teeth out at hospital on Wednesday, general and local anesthetic.

48 hours on and I still feel like crap.. My tongue is still quite numb and I can hardly open my jaw, opening enough to take sips of water and to push tablets through. Sad

Is this completely normal?
How long before you started to feel normal again?

The dentist suggested I'd be fine and back to work by Monday, at this rate I really can't see that happening..

I was fine after two days, my friend who had the OP half an hour after me was unwell for over a week. It really does vary.

Sorry you are feeling awful :(

Mrsmorton · 02/10/2015 14:07

Wisdom tooth extraction is jaw surgery. Not just pulling teeth. I reckon a week and the surgeon I refer to says a week before work after GA in any case.

Thanks for both replies; sounds as if this could be classed as 'normal' then, just feeling miserable with it but I suppose there is no quick solution other than to wait it out!

Very true MrsMorton ... Infection after infection I was more than ready for them out! At least once this pain goes that will be it.. Forever! Smile

I think about 3-4 days. It was grim, though. Flowers

Mine was 5 days before l was diagnosed with dry socket. It was hell. Once l got antibiotics into me it was almost instantly l felt better.

I had 4 removed in one go.

chelsbells · 02/10/2015 15:50

I've read about dry socket and it does sound awful! But hopefully it isn't that and isn't going to turn into that...

I don't really have any pain in my mouth... Just in my jaw line, but the swelling has gone down a bit more today. Just fed up of not being able to eat anything or talk properly!

I had mine done under local anesthetic in and out in 5 minutes and apart from a wee ache which paracetamol helps with I feel pretty fine.

SheSparkles · 03/10/2015 13:22

I had all mine out under general anaesthetic when I was 18 and I'd say it was a full fortnight till I felt normal again. Saying that I find a general anaesthetic knocks hell out of me, and I know my teeth weren't exactly straightforward to get out.
It was totally worth the pain though, as I'd had years of pain beforehand and once I'd healed, that was it, no more problems. Hope you feel better soon

I felt absolutely dreadful for 4-5 days. Started to feel OK after a week.
Hope you feel better soon.
