Over the counter migraine meds

Just thought I would let anyone who gets migraines know what I found out today - Imigran Recovery has been discontinued. There have been supply issues for a while - I think this must have been due to stocks being run down after production stopped.

Anyway - there is an alternative available called Migraitan. It is exactly the same thing: 50mg of sumatriptan supplied in a box contains two tablets, available without prescription and costs £8.00 in Boots. The pharmacy assistant there gave me a card for it too as a replacement for the Imigran one.

Four different pharmacies all run by different companies weren't aware of this - some of them didn't know Imigran was discontinued.

It's £5 in my local pharmacy. They did have a sign up saying Imgran I'd no longer available, so maybe they have prepared for this better. I hope it doesn't run into production issues too!

I was horrified that pharmacy counters in three national supermarket chains didn't know. I have complained to them all.

Further update: according to Sainsbury's, Imigran hasn't been discontinued but is suffering supply issues for an unknown reason. Migraitan is an alternative - apparently Sainsbury's supplier can't get hold of it though - and Boots do their own version. That wasn't offered to me in Boots though. So the upshot is: go to Boots!
