Hi all. I was hoping someone may have some experience or advice about ovarian cysts.
I was diagnosed with a 5cm cyst on my left ovary yesterday. I have been having some pain and, also, full-on pregnancy symptoms for a while (around 2 months) and I was scanned yesterday. I was told by the doctor who scanned me that it was large and she was concerned that it might burst. She said I may need to have it removed. When I heard back later from a nurse after the report had been reviewed by a registrar, I was told they are not going to anything but wait for it to shrink. Does that sound right? Also, does anyone have any idea how long they take to shrink? What if it keeps growing?
I am worried it might burst because, looking back, i think I must have had one years ago as I had sudden and extreme one sided pain which was excruciating. I didn't seek medical help at the time because it passed after a day and I was ok.
They're not going to scan again until a year later so I won't know if it's got bigger or anything. My period is also late and the doctor said it's because of the cyst. Are you still fertile when you have a large cyst on the ovary?
