Eye floaters feeling so down!!

Devopled floaters about 5 months ago wonder what was going on was told by people 'oh there just floaters ' but there so annoying & it's impossible to not see them. I really want the laser or the vitrectomy (I think that's how u spell it) anybody had either of them.or have any positive stories! !! It's mainly my right eye but both have them.

Watching with interest as I've had floaters in one eye especially lately. Have just freaked myself out googling and finding out about retinal detachment!

I wasn't aware there was anything to be done about floaters!

I have masses but the degree varies - they used to be worse, I'm pretty sure. The most annoying thing is when a huge amoeba type drifts across something I'm trying to read but they can always be blinked away.

I have had them for years btw. I used to be extremely short-sighted, then developed very bad astigmatism as well, & eventually had lens replacement surgery, but the floaters were always there & still are.

re retinal detachment, my brother had one, & his vision & floaters were never as bad as mine (mine used to be -10), so I don't think it's an automatic consequence!

My eyes are fine otherwise. When they first came I went to the eye hospital and he said he couldn't see anything even floaters!

God I hope theu don't get bloody worse...I actually stopped noticing them for a while but they seem back with a vengeance

Yes u can there's a few things but are complicated!

5 months is quite a short time though. You do adjust. I do find floaters bloody annoying but they're not bad enough that I'd risk messing with eye surgery to try to fix them.

& even if I did, they'd probably come back! When I first had the lens surgery I had astonishingly clear distance vision, but no near vision at all (this was more than 10 years ago, they can fit focusing lenses now). However now my distance vision has deteriorated, but otoh I can read eg a computer screen without varifocals. (Apparently it's my corneas which keep changing)

Given the potential alternatives I'm just grateful to have reasonably functional eyesight

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile I do think exactly the same a lot of the time, I think I can see clear so I shouldn't do it then I think. ..but I'd love to go back to how they were before & if they got worse it wud be hell.. how long have you had them ? Can you just ignore them now

I've had them for years - I can't remember how long!

They are worse now than they used to be but still liveable with.

I had floaters due to Posterior Vitreous Detatchment and had laser surgery about 13 years ago after a couple of years of monitoring (during which it got worse). Have had no problems since.

My dad developed floaters quite suddenly. This wasn't in the UK and the consultant he got sent to by the GP went 'ah, yes, I see, that must be annoying, do you have anywhere else to be today, because if you don't I can laser it here and now'. Problem fixed. Not sure what the cause of it was though and if it'd be as simple for you.

Omg I wish it was as simple! He said he couldn't see any signs of PVD well he said something similar he was useless tbh & a bit rude when i was upset. I'm on 30 got them at 29 I read sumat like whem u get them younger there in a different place & harder to treat but it's confusing when you try & read about it.. Thanks for your replies .. I hate the buggers

Yep, dirty great 'ring' like a mushroom in my vision. Several other smaller and less noticeable one's appeared over night too, so I went to the eye hospital and they said I'd had a PVD. The cloud or mushroom shaped on is a 'Weiss ring'. The Dr was lovely and said there was nothing that could be done but I have since done some research and know that it could be lasered depending on the position. I am getting used to it and do not notice it all the time, but it does mean that I have limited vision in that eye. I have others too, but they do not bother me like the Weiss ring does.

I've heard about the weiss ring I think the laser treatment breaks it down so it's not big anymore! When I went he gave me a letter with retinal detachment symptoms on it, but the rest of the paper was about PVD although he did not tell me I had this he literally didn't say anything. It said tgat the floaters when from a PVD wud go after a few months did this not happen for you??

I've never been to an optician because apart from the floaters there's nothing wrong with my eyes. & isn't it usually people with bad vision who get them. Is your just in one eye?

Mine are annoying me at the moment it is this time of year. I think the angle of the sun and then lower light levels make them seem much more obvious.

I wouldnt go down the vitrectomy route, it is invasive and not necessarily permanent.

Yes I know what mean mine are somehow worse when it's not sunny just on a normal day they stand at a lot more whereas in the sun it sort of blurs them out with it being bright! & the sun makes me in a happier mood & more likely to forget about them lol

I've had a vitrectomy (actually 2, one in each eye). Not for floaters thigh, but because of eye haemorrhage which meant I was blind.

I'm not sure they'd operate for floaters, I had multiple eye lasers before surgery was discussed, and even after it was, I had to wait for 6 months to make sure it wouldn't clear naturally. My treatment was done at Moorfields and, 5 years on, I still have regular check ups with them.

Interesting, I did not know the floaters from a PVD should go after a few months. I suppose the smaller one's may do, but I am not convinced the 'Weiss ring' will. As far as I know I only have a PVD in one eye and therefore most of my floaters are in that eye. I do have one really small floater in the other eye, but I had to have it pointed out to me and it causes no bother.

When I went to the eye hospital he said he couldn't even see any floaters which I don't understand! They do operate I've read a few stories but only if there really bad I think, he said to me that floaters don't just usual appear! But they must because mine did & they have to come sometime. How long has it took people to get used to them? & do they just get worse as you get older I'm only 30
