am regular poster but a bit too ashamed to post about my nether regions.

have a mirena coil, never given me any problems, occasionally have some breakthru bleeding but its often browny and lasts for a couple of days.

Anyway have been feeling shit for a few weeks and have picked up a bug, started bleeding quite heavy on monday and today its turned into the foulest smelling thick black tar stuff, surely this cant be right?

no it can't be right .. speak to your doctor

JoolsToo · 30/11/2006 15:20

agree

i have been to the dr's twice this week for unrelated things. feel like a freak going again and you always have to ask for an emergency appointment, which makes me feel like a bit of a fraud.

I agree this needs to checked out properly risk of infection etc can be problematic in the nether regions ( don't mean to worry you) and I'm sure that your Dr would rather reassure you that it all ok than miss something, probably will want sample to send to lab. btw how long have you had the coil ?time for change (if I remeber rightly every 5 yrs ( or it could be 3) no doubt more knowledgable persons than I will know the answer to that!!!!

amouse · 30/11/2006 16:12

its only been in about 18 months and was recently checked by doc. All this is making me feel so low, my whole body just feels like shite, I just want to curl up and cry

If you are bleeding and passing foul-smelling thick tar stuff then you need to see the GP, no matter how much of a fraud you feel and no matter that you need an emergency appointment.

It needs checking and treating - sooner rather than later.

lulumama · 30/11/2006 16:16

erm..regardless of how many appointments you have had,.this is indicative of an infection, which needs antibiotics,,,,you muyst go..doc will not be dismissive with these symptoms...x

amouse · 30/11/2006 16:20

could it just be very dark blood and not anything suspicious

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 30/11/2006 16:21

Will you just go and make the appointment? Please?

If it smells and looks like tar then it is NOT just very dark blood, it is an infection, and it needs treating soon.

amouse · 30/11/2006 16:24

ok i will. but will have to wait until tomorrow as cant get to surgery tonight.

if I were a horse they'd have shot me this week

I fel completely and utterly shite on the Mirena too, and after 6 months of no periods at all had a 2 week, long and heavy one. I got it checked and it was "one of those things" but the blood wasn't smelly although it was very dark.

Please go get it checked for your peace of mind, i oculd bea siple infection cleared up witha course of antibiotics. You're not a fraud, you've got something wrong and need to see a dr.

fortyplus · 30/11/2006 23:16

Agree re: infection. You should be on antibiotics straight away - why not phone NHS Direct and see if they think you should take yourself straight to Casualty. Sounds to me as though you'd be better off getting it taken out asap.
