Work vs Health Advice needed please!

Hi

I am currently 32 weeks pregnant and for the past two weeks I have been feeling a lot more exhausted, drained, run down etc. I have been experiencing back pain and pelvic girdle pain, to which I have seen a physiotherapist for (which was useful advice however the pains have never got any easier)

I work a busy, stressful, full time office job that I do enjoy and have never had a day off sick in the time I have worked there prior to being pregnant. It takes about an hour of driving to get there which is very tiring after a night of barely any sleep!

During my pregnancy I had one day off in my first trimester due to bad morning sickness and then two days off last week due to stress related issues at home, lack of sleep, back pain. I just could not cope with going into work and desperately needed some rest! I felt really guilty and felt I was letting them down, so went back into work after two days although I still didn't feel up to it at all!!

So I had yet another bad night last night, up all night going to the toilet, back ache, leg pain etc. I text my boss to ask if I could book the morning off to rest and come into work in the afternoon. She replied saying no, and that she understands my condition however "we have a business to run and I am a part of this". I felt awful after reading this and really felt like a let down for even asking! I forced myself up and went to work.

I know starting my maternity leave earlier than planned could be an option however I wanted to spend as much time as possible with baby :( Some family members have suggested speaking to a doctor to get signed off sick but I don't want this to look bad on my record and think this will make her more mad at me!!

Just need some advice please. Some days are easier than others but it has become more of a struggle and exhausting recently and don't want to let her down again before my maternity leave starts...

Thank you x

You and your baby are more important than any job. Do,what you feel is right for your body.
