emkana and her ds back from the lung specialist

He was a lovely man, really nice, not aloof or arrogant at all.

He has suggested a string of tests for ds to see why he's so prone to chest infections - blood tests, ph metric test (I think that's what it's called, tests for reflux), also sleep lab to see whether his oxygen levels are okay in the night.

There was a lovely respiratory nurse there as well who has given me a flow chart how to try and keep ds's chest under control - explains how and when to use all the different inhalers etc.

I really hope that things will improve in some way...

Oh that sounds positive emkana - lets hope you will get properly listened to from now on

When do you go back to see him?

emkana · 29/11/2006 20:19

The tests will be done at my local hospital, will see the specialist again in six months' time unless ds doesn't improve/gets worse (God forbid!!!), or the tests show anything significant, then sooner.

Ah Em - glad that he was a good guy and that you can start some positive steps to helping Seb.

I know he was the lung doc but did he give you any indication about the chest measurements re the skeletal stuff?

suedonim · 29/11/2006 21:14

That sounds very productive Emkana, and kind of puts you in charge, iykwim. Hope ds keeps well from now on.

lulumama · 29/11/2006 21:17

wow...sounds very positive and proactive....hope DS and his chest troubles get sorted..x

TeeCee · 29/11/2006 21:18

Soapythelistmaker · 29/11/2006 21:23

Oh Emkana - I'm so happy that you've seen someone 'nice' for a change who you feel is taking all of this seriously and dealing with it thoroughly

I hope, as you do, that this is the start of some real improvement for Sebastian

emkana · 29/11/2006 22:16

Thanks everyone.

After seeing a chest x-ray of Seb the lung specialist did say that the ribcage looked small to him, but for more on that we will have to wait for the appointment with the geneticist on the 11th of next month.

I'm glad you had a productive session and things are being taken seriously. Hope the testing yields some helpful results.

lemonaid · 29/11/2006 23:09

That all sounds positive. I hope that with what you've taken from this one, plus the upcoming geneticist appointment, things really start to move forward for you and DS.

welliemum · 30/11/2006 02:32

Were the lung specialist's initials JH by any chance?

Whatever, he sounds really helpful in a practical way. Hope this turns up some useful info for your ds.

emkana · 30/11/2006 08:15

No he has a double-barrelled name.

welliemum · 30/11/2006 08:32

S L-H?

No, don't worry, you have more important things to do than play guessing games! Hope ds's chest is better.

edam · 30/11/2006 08:35

Good news that you've found a doc who ise useful at last.

Twiglett · 30/11/2006 08:37

I do know him, emkana - excellent physician and top bloke.

I agree with californifrau though. It would have been so much better if you could have seen him sooner. In any sensible health system someone like your ds, ie being possibly out of the usual run-of the-mill of chest problems, would have seen a specialist right from the word go. Sorry, will stop ranting now...

tamum · 30/11/2006 18:34

I'm erally glad to hear that things are looking up emkana

tamum · 30/11/2006 18:34

really

reiver · 30/11/2006 20:25

Pleased to hear that you seen someone who is going to do something practical at last. Hope the appt with the geneticist goes well too.

SilentBite · 30/11/2006 20:28

Oh Emkana that's great - was he one of the ones I sent you?
(tis me cd)

emkana · 30/11/2006 22:34

Yes he was SilentBite!
