Bartholin's cyst removal

CrimsonSunrise · 16/09/2015 14:39

I've had a bartholin's cyst for several years now, repeated antibiotics, done the bathing it routine etc.
Last month it flared up badly and I went to my gp again and the doc I saw said instantly it needed removing as it wasn't going away and sent a referral to the local gyno dept.
I'm in on the 29th to see the consultant and just wanted some info before hand about people's experiences with removals, especially recovery time etc?
TIA

Hi Crimson. Commiserations and hugs. I have had a couple which have eventually sorted themselves out. V painful. Sad

However I am sure the lovely KatoPotato won't mind me linking her 13 page thread about hers and it's subsequent removal.

They don't actually remove it. They do a procedure called marsupialisation, which is a sort of cutting and draining of the cyst and a fingers crossed it doesn't reappear.

I've had it done twice Sad. First time was under local anaesthetic, which was unpleasant and it came back within weeks and then got infected (grimmer than grim). Second time was under general - it healed quickly and 9 years later no sign of the bastard! Grin

Arial Sad I bet you were upset when it came back the first time.

helzapoppin2 · 16/09/2015 21:07

I had it done just once. Very effective. About a week to get over, but it was a long time ago, so maybe I don't remember all that well.

Le1890 · 16/09/2015 22:51

I've had the op for it twice too. Was very effective. I get it when I am pregnant! Only came back when I was pregnant again wth ny second child. Not had it again since. Planning a third child at some point so expect it to rear its ugly head again! Lol

Will be worth it when you get it sorted x

Arial Oh no as if the blighter came back! Least it's gone now!
Sorry to hear it got infected and you had to have it done again. Glad all is well now!

helza Glad for a positive outcome!

Le I've had it for ages then in my first pregnancy it drastically reduced and became less sore and nasty! It stayed sort of dormant, there but not causing much issue. But during my second it came back with a vengeance and has stayed put being nasty and sore. Hope yours stays at bay when you have your third baby!
