High graded abnormal smear

Hi I've received a letter today saying my smear was abnormal, high graded and inviting me for a colposcopy.

I've resisted the urge to Google so far but must admit to being a bit worried, especially after a clear smear just under three years ago.

Does anyone have any experience of this? What happened next? Thank you.

I've had a couple of colposcopies. They will basically look inside your cervix with a camera to check for any abnormalities. You may require a punch or loop biopsy if they detect anything untoward. Mine have always come back clear although I do have HPV. I go to the hospital yearly for smears now so they can keep an eye on things but like I say, nothing more serious has ever shown up.

I think the thing to remember is that if you go for regular smear tests they are so good at picking up any abnormalities it is unlikely to get so far as to be really serious. I cannot for the life of me understand why some women don't go!
