5 week period.....help?

I had my DD 5 months ago. At the 8 week check I was given Fernella as my new pill(mini pill) and have taken it daily since. Within 7 days of starting it I had my period which lasted for 3.5 weeks. I then had just over a month with no period, my last period started on 12th August and is still continuing now. The contraceptive pill is working only in the sense that I'm never not on my period.

I'm starting to get concerned about this but as its not an emergency a doctor's appointment will be 3 weeks away.

Any ideas what could be causing this and what I should do to stop this?

Waiting three weeks for a GP appointment is unacceptable. I would look into changing GP surgeries or at the very least complain to the PCT.

Bleeding like this is not normal and needs checking out asap; also such could cause you to become anaemic.

I've called the doctors again and after a long chat to the receptionist she has taken pity and magically found an appointment for tomorrow (the same woman who told me on Friday I couldn't see anyone until 30th).

I already take iron tablets to stop me from being anaemic as I have always had low iron levels. Hopefully it's nothing more serious.
