Am I being irrational to be panicked about this?

Drank half a bottle of water in the middle of the night last week, only realised after several gulps it tasted off. Smelt it and it smelt rancid. Like a musty/soil/bad rainwater smell (but bad, not pleasant.) Kept it in case I got ill from it and could have it tested.

3 days later got acute watery diarrhoea, sharp stabbing stomach pains, temp of 102, muscle aches. 72 hours later watery diarrhoea still not gone (very unusual for me) temperature back to normal, sharp stabbing pains still here, muscle aches still here.

Got babysitter to look after 9mo DC as was so ill. What does the babysitter do? She gives DC water from the bad bottle I had left isolated. Probably my fault for keeping it, but anyway...

The rest is a bit of a blur for me and I don't know if I am just a mess after not eating or sleeping properly for three days, or my hunch is right.

Should I get the water tested? Should I do a stool test? I am convinced now that DC is going to be terribly ill, but DH points out that I don't know that it's the water that made me ill in the first place.

Much googling informs me that "true" contaminated water has an undetectable taste/smell.

I've had stomach bugs before but they usually go within 24 hours and I never have a temperature or stabbing stomach pains.

Called Doctor and she said wait til next week, see if it gets worse. Very helpful sarcastic face,

Could you google the batch number on the bottle and see if they've had a recall? Not sure if it would tell you though.

I've had cryptospiridosis earlier this year and it was truly awful. The water complaint tested my water but that was because the stool sample was sent off from the Gp and came back positive. I actually think I caught it from swimming at a well known holiday park a few weeks before.

It could just be coincidence....do you have a school aged child? Back to school bugs are always rife. If it doesn't clear up by Monday, I'd take a sample to the GP and ask them test it. Better to sure if it doesn't clear up.
