What does heartburn feel like?

I'm not sure if what I've got is heartburn or not. Every now again I get this pain between my shoulder blades and a sickly burning type sensation in the throat, I feel like I wouldn't be able to swallow anything. This feeling usually lasts about 2 hours or so. Does this sound like heartburn?

Yes, but chest pain should be assessed by someone professional, see your doctor soon.

Not usually at the back. It's usually mid-chest for me - searing pain that is yes like burning.
I'd speak to someone in the pharmacy if you have the shoulder pain too. they would tell you whether to se a Dr or just grab some Rennies / Gavascon. A night garage would have some if you have it now - they help if it's not too bad.

Yes as you say - im currently chugging Gaviscon as we speak...
That being said I agree with purple get checked as its something that you've never experienced before and its to do with your chest. You can never be too careful x

Heartburn to me is an uncomfortable burning feeling behind my breastbone which travels up and down, and comes and goes. Don't feel it between my shoulder blades - it's definitely on the front.

And a swig of Gaviscon pretty quickly sees it off.

I have had similar things to you OP (pain in the back etc). I think it is possibly indigestion or gallbladder issues. Likely something digestive but pop to the GP to get checked.

Thanks for the replies, I will go to the doctor, just hope it's nothing to worry about.

I have chronic heartburn but have never had pain in my back so it is worth getting it checked. It feels a bit like you've accidently drunk vinegar - acidy burning sensation.

I get mine in the back - after endoscopy they told me that my oesophagus had developed cracks in it from the reflux, so I'm guessing there were more towards the back (from lying down?) which sent the pain radiating that way.

I could be talking complete bollocks, though :)

Definitely make an appointment to see the GP.
