Pain in breast

This morning I woke up and thought gosh my right breast feels a bit sore. I felt around a bit and it gave me the sensation of bing bruised. Now I haven't fallen out of bed, walked into a door or anything. In fact until lunchtime today I hadn't left th house since Thursday and I'm here by myself.
All day the pain has been niggling me. Just now I had a good feel again and the pain is from the nipple. Is it possible to bruise yourself? I do wear 3 metal bangles on my other wrist but have done for years so can't see that they would cause a problem. It seems odd to me that the pain just came on overnight. When I leant forward to put my bra on my breast felt strained from the nipple downwards.
I'm going to have to go to the doctor aren't I? I suppose I'm writing here because husband is away and I want to be calm and not ask / tell anyone and have them go crazy.

Ok it's 24 hours later. I have ear and jaw pain. The breast is pale red and slight swollen, the nipple is very sore. No discharge. Pain in between breast and collar bone and in ribs. Running a temperature.
No appointment till 3pm Thursday. Still by myself till a week Sunday. It's going to be a long time.

That sounds like mastitis, are there no emergency appointments available? Is there a walk-in centre you can attend?

Isthiscorrect · 08/09/2015 17:39

Thanks hell. I'm overseas and we don't have walkin clinics. I will call again tomorrow, I feel sure the doc will see me, they are generally very accommodating. I was only thing here yesterday to get a sick note. I had a streaming cold since last week where neither your eyes or nose stop running like a flipping tap. And yesterday at 2 pm when I went I didn't feel like this at all, I thought I was getting better until last night then wham bam pain and a fever. Getting a bit of a stiff neck now but that might be mumsnetting at a weird angle on the sofa.

Can you get mastitis when you are not breast feeding? And well into menopause.

Yes, it is possible to get mastitis when not breast feeding it is less common but it does happen. You sound like you're going through the mill a bit at the moment, I hope you feel better soon Flowers

Thank you. Tbh I feel ok generally it seems a bit odd really. Never mind. I bit the bullet and made the appointment. I was tempted to put if off, wait and see, but now I'm glad I have made the appointment and will call again tomorrow.
