Not asking for me but for a friend. she is 47. had bloating with some pain on and off and constipation for a good few months but has always had IBS so this is not particularly unusual for her. went to GP who was unconcerned. told her that as she'd had a full blood count done recently any cancer markers would show up. friend is worried about ovarian cancer.

is what the GP said true? I was under the impression it was a specific test to look for the ca125 protein.

It would only show if it had been specifically requested by the GP.
Does the GP know she's worried about ovarian cancer? It might be worth her going back for a chat to specifically address that.

I'd advise her to go back and discuss her concerns about OC and ask for the CA125 test. A full blood count doesn't include CA125 unless it was requested on the form.
