Urine sample from 2 yo

My DD has a temperature and no other symptoms. When she was 1yo, she had a urinary tract infection. She was catheterized numerous times during that time to diagnose it, check it, and then to ensure that she didn't have reflux or other associated issues. This time, I think it may be another uti, but I don't want her to go through the pain and trauma of another catheter. The doctor said that if I could get a clean urine sample, DD wouldn't have to be catheterized. So the question is: How do you get a clean urine sample from a 2 year old girl who is not potty-trained?? The doctor said to try to get her to pee into a clean container after wiping her. Sounds easy, but I don't think it will be so.
TIA

did you get any 2babies? How's the little one feeling?

for future ref if you clingfilm a potty it makes it sterile (well sterile enough for the purposes of catching urine). A good trick is also to clingfilm the bowl of the loo (don't stretch it too tight!) and then get them to pee in it. the clingfilm catches the pee and it is relatively easy to gather it up and decant it into a sterile jar. more useful for when they are a little older (eg 3) and you don't want to let them know what you are up to!

Branster, your cotton wool method was brilliant except that I couldn't get DD to wee one drop last night before she wanted to go to bed. She did have a fever last night, but not as high as I would expect with a uti. So I'm hoping a urine sample will not be necessary. If she's still running a fever when I get home tonight, I'm going to try again. Will keep you posted. Praying that she's just got a virus. . .

Branster, DD no longer has a fever, just ate an enormous meal, and has just pooped. Snoopy dance!!! Thanks for your advice. I'm so relieved.

PPH, Thanks for your advice, but I've never been able to get DD to pee in the potty.

Thanks also, Jimjams.

Can I just say - in my extremely hormonal state - before the feeling goes away - God Bless you all. If I ever have any questions about my children or just need someone to talk to about something as seemingly trivial as a urine sample, I know where to turn. Thanks again!!
