Threadworms - what else can I do?

Ok, so it seems I have threadworms .

Took opex (or whatever the medication is called) on Tuesday. I'm still itchy Confused.

I've been changing bedsheets every other day, towels every day, hoovering my room every morning and damp dusting tops in my bedroom, cleaning the loo every time I use it, scrubbing my hands and being very careful with hand hygiene, showering first thing and in the evening, smothering the area with sudocream all the time, changing clothes and underwear and washing after every use frequently.

It's been five days since I took the medication. Surely they should have gone by now? I spotted a live on on Friday evening . Feel like I'm trying everything to get rid of them but maybe I've missed something or maybe I need to take more medication before it gets to the two week mark when it's due but not sure if I can. Any advice or thoughts appreciated. The itching feeling, the itchy feeling .

Take another dose today. Won't do you any harm. And wear two pairs of pants in bed so you don't need to keep re washing bed clothes

They are horrible aren't they? They can take a while to die. When we had them all the washing and hygiene issues made no difference. What did was everyone in the household taking an ovex at the same time and then repeating the dose for everyone exactly two weeks later because of their life cycle. And being prepared to take another dose two weeks after.

The washing and hygiene measures are almost impossible to carry out effectively because their eggs are so tiny and you're bound to accidentally "winnow" some and ingest some at some point, in your mouth , up your nose etc.

Yes, th hygiene stuff is exhausting. Dd and dh took the medication at the same time as me, touchwood they have no symptoms atm, just me (they never had it in the first place).

I wonder if I should take a second dose today (5 days later) then. I'm umming about it as the first dose gave me horrid tummy pain and if I don't need to id rather not put myself through it I'm just hoping they magically go away

2nd the whole family has to be dosed up at the same time and then again 2 weeks later.

If it's coming home via school I'm a firm believer in telling school just as if it was nits because until all parents are careful to monitor and treat their kids, it will never ever go away!

Reastie · 23/08/2015 10:38

But you see it's not dd that has is, it's me! No one else has symptoms but they did take medication at same time as me. Dd isn't yet at school but we've had a fair few of her friends over here to play in the holidays so I assume I could have caught it that way.

Ok,no rang the pharmacist. She told me it's common to still feel like there's something crawling/there after they've died because of the secretions and that I definitely shouldn't take a second dose until the second week unless specifically my go tells me to. I'll hold off on the second dose then but if I'm still itching tomorrow I think I may ring my gp to see what she says as I've read online ant taking a second dose a week later (but can't find anything about taking it sooner than one week). I've also ordered grapefruit seed extract to come tomorrow as that seems to be good, but I remember I've had it before and it tastes absolutely disgusting (it's the liquid as I can't swallow tablets).

I've been washing everything with extra rinse with napsan but now I'm wondering if I should boil wash everything Hmm

Sorry very quick post but the only way we got rid of them after several weeks of reinfestation was to wash every piece of bedding and pj's and underwear at 90 degrees. That and ovex every other week for a while sorted it out.

pinkfrocks · 23/08/2015 16:57

Also dry your bedding outside if you can to give it all a good blow- as opposed to draping around the house.

@Fairylea how long did this all go on for? I know it's been a while since this was posted.

I have been going through this for weeks and it's all taking a toll on me. I don't think I can physically do anymore. I was washing everything on 60 and will start to wash on 90. Even if it does take nearly 2 hrs each time.
