Copper Coil - How long does it last

Hi, I have had a copper coil for just over 5 years. When I had it inserted, I was told that it would last between 5 and 10 years, but I'm not sure what this meant in terms of having it taken out and having another one put in. I had a scan jut over six months ago (another reason) and it is still in its place. How long have other people had a copper coil for. Definitely dont want to risk pregnancy.

You need to find out which brand you have. Each brand can last for either 5, 8 or 10 years, after which point you can become pregnant. You should have received a leaflet when you got it which tells you the name and how long it lasts, otherwise call up the GP surgery as it should be on your records.
