I felt I was completely hijacking the other thread so to answer your question, the raised parathyroid came with a calcium result, which was within range. I don't understand the connection though.

Hello!

There's a condition called primary Hyperparathyroidism - the signs are high parathyroid hormone and high calcium. It's caused by a benign growth on one or more of the parathyroid glands which is generally easily removed by surgery.(I've just had surgery for it so my ears prick up when I hear the word parathyroid).

It's a shit disease which often goes diagnosed and there's poor awareness of it among UK doctors. lots of vague symptoms like tired all the time etc, brain fog , aches and pains. Indigestion, bone problems.

If your calcium is ok then your high pth might be caused by low vit D. It all gets very complicated though and I'm not an expert.

Didn't want to alarm you but I felt crap for years because of this and just want to raise awareness so that others don't have to suffer. If you want to know more there's a good UK Facebook group.

Thanks for that very comprehensive reply! I was confused by how high my vit d was in the same set of bloods. . It's been terribly low every other time - need to check if it can be skewed by the vit you take the morning of the test - I've been taking vast quantities for the last couple of weeks.

I really can't get my head around how unwell I've been feeling - and how one steroid tablet has made such a vast difference in the last couple of days.

Anyway, thank you!
