Was told today that the mole I had removed was a melanoma.

I guess I am just a bit in shock. I have got to go back and have a wider area around where the mole was removed to check that it hasn't spread.
The funny thing is is that my GP wasn't at all concerned about this mole yet the moles that I was referred to the specialist for are deemed ok.

Tell me joke and cheer me up please!

Sorry about your news, Blondie. Here's a joke though:

What do you do if you see a space man?
Park in it, man!

MammyM · 24/11/2006 21:29

sorry to hear your news. If you want cheering up have a look at the 'stupidest thing you've cried over during pregnancy' thread, it's hilarious.

My friend had exactly the same thing recently - she had the wider area removed and she is absolutely fine - they got it all. Hang in there - it is good that they are sorting it out. Sending lots of positive healing thoughts to you.

Blondie79 · 24/11/2006 21:31

Thanks guys - I appreciate your attempts.

What do you call a 3 legged donkey?

A wonkey!

Blondie79 please don't get too stressed, my mum has honestly sailed through her experience with a positive attitude - she has realised it is worth covering up in the sun but is otherwise unaffected. Has you doctor given you a lot of reassurance that this is very probably a minor problem?

Big sympathy as I am sure it has been a shock for you

UCM · 24/11/2006 21:32

Blondie, I had one recently which raised & bled, but luckily it scabbed over and went back to normal. I was very worried at the time.

My father who worked abroad for years (always in sun), has had several of these removed years ago and is still going strong 20 years later and has had no problems since.

alexa1 · 24/11/2006 21:34

Blondie79- i remember your thread.
Don't worry, i'm sure everything is fine.

Blondie79 · 24/11/2006 21:40

My GP has said that I have been v lucky that they have caught it - I have had it looked at twice previously by 2 different doctors who said I had nothing to worry about and to be honest made me feel like I was wasting their time.

Thanks for all your best wishes though and I'm sure it is going to be ok - I'm just feeling a bit weird (perhaps shocked) at the moment. Its like they've told me its bad news but don't worry it's pretty much sorted all in one breath. And i haven't had chance to get my head round the bad news bit. I am trying to stay positive - if I hadn't insisted on having it removed where could I be?

I remember your thread Blondie - thinking of you.

when are you going back?

Blondie79 · 24/11/2006 21:46

ohhello - I have not got my appointment through yet but my GP is going to do a telephone referral on monday - I was only told at 5:30 this evening that I had melanoma so I don't expect that anything can be done before Monday morning anyway.

Everyones views and opinions help - it makes me realise that I am not alone and that other people have been through this and similiar and been ok. I really do appreciate people taking the time to read my thread and post.

I'm sorry to hear your news, Blondie, but glad you got it looked at. My sister had melanoma but is fine, 16 years on.

nikkie · 24/11/2006 22:16

I had one removed that turned out to be Melanoma 5 years ago, have just been signed off by the hospital now.Not had any more probs but am very paranoid about any little mark though.

mousiemousie · 25/11/2006 10:10

Try taking some Rescue Remedy for the shock - this really helped me deal with the shock and trauma of a recent operation.

And take it easy, but honestly everything will be just fine

Blondie79 · 25/11/2006 20:08

Nikkie - did you just have the mole removed or did you have to go and have further tests etc?

OP posts:
nikkie · 25/11/2006 21:30

I had it removed(on top of my ear) then it was tested and I had to go back and have more taken off.(ended up under a plastic surgeon as they may have taken a chunk off my ear and had to reconstruct?-luckily not that much).I also had some more taken off but they were fine.I was 34 weeks preg at the time (think it was the hormones that caused it too grow) and had a midwife with me whilst it was done!

mummymania · 26/11/2006 08:38

Hi my ex had this. He too was told that there was nothing to worry about but the gp removed them anyway because they were catching on his shirt. Anyway one was melanoma and he had to have more skin removed and a skin graft (it was on his back). He was a sun worshiper for years and had a lot of moles so has had a few more scares and is understandably paranoid but years on has remained clear. Try not to worry....good luck with your treatment.
