Non-terrifying cause of cervical bleeding

About 15 years ago I experienced bleeding after sex. Turned out to be a cervical erosion - had colposcopy to remove the cells and all was fine.

I now have two kids (youngest is 18months) and have had some bleeding between periods (but not after sex - although tbh im abstaining as the thought of bleeding really puts me off) the past 3/4 months. Dr looked and said he can see a bleeding area on my cervix and I've got a hosp apptmnt next week which he made for me within 2 hrs of seeing him ( which panicked me).

I'm worrying myself stupid about what it could be - much more so than when I had the similar problem all those years ago ( prob because I didn't have the Internet then! ). Please reassure me if you can - if it was something awful, would I have other symptoms??

I had this, it was a tiny polyp that was removed under local anaesthetic in about 5 minutes. I'm sure it's something like that rather than anything sinister

Probably. Certainly there are many non-scary reasons for a bleeding cervix, mostly "it got a bit bashed" and "hormones are weird and cause stuff like that", so really don't worry - even if it were cervical cancer, it's been spotted and could be removed at this stage, so it's really really unlikely that the outcome would be worse than another colposcopy. Your cervical ectropian may have come back - they can be caused by hormones. Presuming all your smears are up to date and have been ok it's unlikely to be anything awful.

Polyp here too. Twice. Maybe the erosion can come back? I was told that it is common with polyps.. Try not to worry (easier said than done!). My referral was also quick, maybe it's to do with guidelines on bleeding between periods? I'm sure someone more in the know will be along. Worrying won't actually change anything, try to keep distracted and trust that whatever the cause, you'll be seen quickly which is great, and receive whatever treatment you need swiftly, which can only be a good thing. It can be hormonal too. I started mid cycle bleeding during perimenopause.

Thanks neednewflowers - I don't think it's that though, unfortunately, as the Dr said my cervix is red and bleeding.

Thought I'd update. Those of you who said it could be another erosion/ectropian were right. Consultant said I did not need to have it treated if I didn't want to and suggested I change my pill to Cerazette as it's an oestrogen-free pill. Apparently ( sure most of you know this but I didn't) it's the oestrogen that causes the erosion - take that away and it should solve the problem.
