My little boy is 16months and has been prescribed antibiotics, orciprenaline and I need to give him calpol/ibuprofen as his temperature keeps rising.]

The problem is that i cannot get him to take any of these medicines even with the syringe and we are both ending up in tears, covered in medicine

Does anyone have any tips for me as he is really poorly and I just want him to feel better. Any advice would be very gratefully received. Thanks.

Jessm

We have had this problem too. We tried lots of things...

If you try while he's in the bath, make him laugh or get him to say something with his mouth open wide, and try to aim the syringe towards the back of his mouth.

Another way which sometimes worked was holding him fairly upright after he had fallen asleep, opening his mouth and squirting it in then.

Or perhaps hanging around beside him when he's engrossed in something and jumping in quickly when he opens his mouth wide enough?

The last time my ds had ABs, we got nowhere near the prescibed dose into him, so I phoned the GP, and she said that next time I could request a more concentrated medicine - on the basis that it's easier to get 2.5mls into them than 5mls.

You have my sympathy, I am really on edge when ds is ill, and trying to get him to take medicine completely drains me! Hope he's feeling better soon.

We've stirred medicine into yoghurt, that worked for a while! We named it mediyog!
