Suspected conjunctivitus in DD. What do I do now?

I just picked her up from Pre-school and one of the teachers drew my attention to DD's slightly pink eye. She says DD has been rubbing it all morning. Conjunctivitus has been doing the rounds of the Pre-school.

Do I have to take DD to the doctor for a proper diagnosis and prescription or will I be able to get something from the Pharmacist?

I can't believe we have got to age 4 and continual contact with other children without a bout of conjunctivitus!

Any chance you have a child you are still breastfeeding? If so, drip a little breastmilk into the pink eye, and problem solved! It really does seem to work, it doesn't hurt (I did it to my four-year-old, and he said it didn't), and you don't have to see a doctor or a pharmacist.

you can get OTC eye drops with antibiotics in them now so I'd nip to pharmacist first (if you aren't bf'ing another child that is)

You can buy Optrex Infected Eyes over the counter. It's good stuff, you should notice an improvement after only a day and will get rid of it completely in 3-4 days, although you'll need to put the drops in for 5 days

That's always been the case with me anyway, and with dsd who had it a couple of weeks ago

I stopped feeding DD2 3 months ago. I wonder if anything can still be squeezed out.

Can you guess what I'm about to do?

See if you can hand-express - if you fed for a while, there probably is still some in there.

I b/fed for 11 months but can't get even a dribble out now. Off to the Pharmacy instead.
