How to help DS get better after awful tum upset

My DS aged 11, had a really bad tummy bug and colic after half term (a gift from egypt!) but after a week returned to school. Since then he hasn't been able to go to the loo for a whole week, despite me trying healthy normal food, ie bran flakes, wholemeal bread, veg/fruit etc, lots of water.

Yesterday he had a terrible tummy ache at school, dashed to the loo where he stayed for some time! I imagine the pain after a week must be awful. But at least he has now been.

He feels really sick today and doesn't look good.

How do I get his "equilibrium" back? How do I soothe the tummy and get it better? Anyone got any top tips? Thanks

Could he drink peppermint tea? I always find that soothes my tummy. Don't know if he'd like it much though!

That's a thought ... I have some in, I will try him with that when he wakes up. Thanks

oh how awful for him - it's often the way after nasty tummy bugs that your digestive system swings the other way and you get constipated!

Someone else on here will know better but I would look for some probiotics for him.

You can also get a sort of fig syrup from the chemist if he is struggling again but I imagine now that he has had one good clear out, he'll probably already feel a bit better!

thanks foxinsocks, I will bear the fig syrup in mind, incase we don't get going fully again!

I ave the yakult type drinks, but as they are yogurty/milky I didn't think they would be good for his tum, I suppose I need a chemist to find some in some tablet/powder form?

health food shops (like Holland and Barrett type places) do them but I'm no expert
