Is this vertigo? Ear infection? Pregnancy side-effect?

I have had funny ears for about a week now; feel like I'm hearing everything through cotton wool. But now I'm hearing constant buzzing and hissing and I feel terribly dizzy. It comes and goes in spells but at lunchtime I couldn't stand up for ages, then when I did it felt like the floor was sinking - not nice!

I seem to remember suffering bunged up ears when I first got pg with ds - but not dizziness - never had anything like it!!

labyrinthitis??

Mumpbump · 17/11/2006 14:27

If your middle (I think) ear gets bunged up, it can affect your sense of balance. I had a cold and felt like I was falling over even though I wasn't...

Miaou · 17/11/2006 14:29

Hmmm. No cold.

Can you treat labyrinthitis? Is it worth troubling my doctor with do you think or is it just a virus?

I suffer with labs alot, do you feel like you are on a boat?

You may be as well going to see the doctor, if it is just because of an inner ear infection they may be able to treat it.

If it is labs then they may be able to give you some medication.

i hope for your sake, especially with you being pregnant that it isn't labs or vertigo.

Yes, I do a bit Radley! What a bummer. Dh is going away this weekend too - eek.

I have just read up about labyrinthitis and certainly a lot of the symptoms fit - argh. Will take a view and see how I am later on today - I doubt the doc can do anything though as I won't be able to take any medication.

It has come on rather suddenly so maybe it will go away just as suddenly ....

DD had something like this about 3 weeks ago - she described it as 'people sounding like robots underwater' It eventually turned into a stinking cold, but I don't think it lasted a week. Might be worth ringing the surgery - if you can't get an appointment perhaps you could speak to the practice nurse - ours is very helpful

Miaou · 17/11/2006 14:41

Do you know what rusty, that is a very good description

I was going to say I feel like I have one of those "rainmaker" sticks in my ear but I like the robots better

Just rang the doc and she says I have vertigo but apart from anti-sickness stuff there's not really anything else she can give me. However she has given me her home phone no. in case I get worse over the weekend
