Anyone taken this to stave off a migraine?

I just wondered how long it generally takes to work? I took my first one yesterday and then some painkillers but just ended up feeling nauseous.

By a couple of hours later I felt fine- do they take a few hours to work?

I take imigran for migraines. I take one usually with normal paracetamol as well but usually have to take a second two hours later, which is what my doctor recommended. I used to just take one and be fine but now it usually takes a second one to have any effect.

When I take it it usually takes an hour or so to kick in. If it hasn't worked after 2-2.5 hours I take another one.

I don't take any extra painkillers until at least an hour after I take the first imigran though.

They can take a couple of hours to work yes. which does did you take imigran comes in two does sizes, it'd you need to take two maybe asking for the higher dose.

Also know it's the first triptan you can try there are 7 the newer ones tend to work faster and have less side effects but are only available on prescription. Do ask to try another one if it doesn't work.

I take it quite regularly - have both nasal spray and tablets depending . Takes an hour to kick in but then works . I get very thirsty with it but it enables me not to lose whole chunks of my time

Take painkillers first , as soon as you feel a migraine .

Take them at the FIRST sign you are getting a migraine.

Years ago I used to hold off taking them but would end up with the agonising headache and being sick.

If you get an aura or anything, take them then. I get a weird feeling in my body and just 'know' ones coming.

I take one as soon as I feel a migraine starting, then another one a couple of hours later if first one hasn't worked. It can take an hour or so to work, but the difference is amazing. They can make me feel a bit peculiar, but they do stop the migraine. I get mine on prescription, I don't know if they are stronger than OTC Imigran.

As others have said, they don't work if you are in the full blown migraine stage, you need to catch it early.

I took it only twice before but both times it worked as soon as it got into my system, so about 20 minutes, each time they were 100mg tablets.

Thanks all, my headache lifted quicker than normal but took a while to go, I wasn't sure if they'd work as quickly as say paracetamol or something. Painkillers normally help but don't lift that heavy migraine feeling but the imigran seemed to help that.

Imigran gave me my life back. As others say, don't put off taking them though. My GP tried to give me migraleve instead because of 'the cost' but I pointed out I have 2 prescriptions a year, both for Imigran, and if I wanted bloody paracetomol and codeine I'd buy it for a quid OTC.

Been using Migraleve for more than ten years now, and very rarely need the Stage Two yellow ones, but good to have them for the odd occasion when I don't get the pink ones down fast enough. Usually work within half-an-hour, both kinds contain more than pain-killers and unfortunately cost more than £1 but still slightly less than prescription for initial pink ones.

If they hadn't screwed about with Syndol then I wouldn't need imigran !

Have been on various forms of Imigram for about 20 years. Originally I was on the tabs, then nasal spray and now injections. It's been a life saver for me, nothing else touches the pain of a migraine.

I did try migraleve about 20 yrs ago, but they never did anything...mind you, I know people that Imigran doesn't touch either.

Migralieve doesn't work for me , nor did they for my mam. I remember her coming ho,e from the GP with them about 25 years ago, full of hope !
I had my first imigran injection the day before Princess Diana died. Thought I was hallucinating the next day !
